Abstract

Methods and apparatus to perform measurements are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein for a user equipment (UE) to perform measurements comprises receiving configuration information from a network, the configuration information to configure the UE to perform logging of measurements in an idle mode, logging measurements in the idle mode, and sending an indication that logged measurements are available.

Claims

1. A method for a user equipment (UE) to perform measurements, the method comprising:

receiving configuration information from a network, the configuration information to configure the UE to perform logging of measurements in an idle mode;

logging measurements in the idle mode; and

sending an indication that logged measurements are available.

2. A method as defined in claim 1 further comprising:

determining whether logged measurements are available at the UE, the logged measurements having been obtained in accordance with the received configuration information; and

if the logged measurements are available, sending to the network the indication that the logged measurements are available.

3. A method as defined in any one of claim 1 or 2 wherein the indication is sent via a radio resource control (RRC) message.

4. A method as defined in claim 3 wherein the RRC message is an RRC connection setup complete message.

5. A method as defined in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the indication comprises an information element of a message.

6. A method as defined in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein sending the indication comprises transmitting a message including the indication to the network.

7. A method as defined in any one of claims 1 to 6 further comprising discarding logged measurements after a timer has expired.

8. A method as defined in any one of claims 1 to 6 further comprising keeping a log of the measurements after logging of the measurements has been suspended.

14. An article of manufacture storing machine readable instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to perform the method defined in any one of claims 1 to 13.

15. An apparatus comprising a processor configured to perform the method defined in any one of claims 1 to 13.

9. A method comprising:

sending configuration information to a user equipment (UE), the configuration information to configure the UE to perform logging of measurements in an idle mode; and

receiving an indication from the UE that logged measurements are available.

10. A method as defined in claim 9 wherein the indication is received via a radio resource control (RRC) message.

11. A method as defined in claim 10 wherein the RRC message is an RRC connection setup complete message.

12. A method as defined in any one of claims 9 to 11 wherein the indication comprises an information element of a message.

13. A method as defined in any one of claims 9 to 11 wherein receiving the indication comprises receiving a message including the indication.
