Abstract

In a method to control a medical apparatus of an installation having: a contact device for a patient, at least one electrical potential sensor that can be coupled to the body of said patient is integrated into the contact device. A signal evaluation device is provided with measurement signals generated with the electrical potential sensor for evaluation. The medical apparatus is connected with the signal evaluation device, and measurement signals that relate to the breathing and/or cardiac activity of the patient are acquired with the at least one electrical potential sensor coupled to the body of said patient upon contact of the patient with the contact device. Trigger signals are generated with the signal evaluation device based on the measurement signals that relate to the breathing cycle and/or the cardiac cycle of the patient. Operation of the medical apparatus is controlled based on the trigger signals.

Claims

1. A method to control a medical apparatus of a medical installation, said medical installation comprising a contact device configured to be coupled to the body of a patient, said contact device having at least one electrical potential sensor integrated therein that interacts with the body of the patient when the contact device is coupled to the body of the patient, a signal evaluation device supplied with said measurement signal from said at least one electrical potential sensor, and said medical apparatus being in communication with said signal evaluation device, said method comprising:

with said at least one electrical potential sensor coupled to the body of the patient and in contact with the patient by means of the contact device, generating a measurement signal relating to a physiological activity of the patient selected from the group consisting of breathing activity and cardiac activity;

in said signal evaluation device supplied with said measurement signal, evaluating said measurement signal to obtain an evaluation result and, from said evaluation result, generating trigger signals; and

from said signal evaluation device, controlling operation of said medical apparatus based on said trigger signals.

2. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said medical apparatus is a medical imaging apparatus, and comprising acquiring image information from the patient with said medical imaging apparatus based on said trigger signals.

3. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said medical apparatus is a radiation therapy apparatus, and comprising controlling implementation of a radiation treatment of tissue of the patient based on said trigger signals.

4. A method as claimed in claim 1 comprising forming said at least one electrical potential sensor with at least two electrodes that are capacitively coupled to the body of the patient and generating said measurement signals with said at least two electrodes as difference measurement signals.

5. A method as claimed in claim 1 comprising evaluating said measurement signals in said signal evaluation device by an analysis selected from the group consisting of Fourier analysis and wavelet analysis to obtain an analysis result as said evaluation result.

6. A method as claimed in claim 1 comprising configuring said contact device as a belt worn on the chest of the patient, with said at least one electrical potential sensor being integrated in said belt.

A method as claimed in claim 1 comprising configuring said contact device as a patient support device selected from the group consisting of a patient support plate of a patient support table, and a placement mat configured to be arranged on a patient support plate of a patient support table, with said at least one electrical potential sensor being integrated in said patient support device.

8. A method as claimed in claim 7 comprising integrating a plurality of electrical potential sensors in said patient support device as a two-dimensional matrix.

9. A method as claimed in claim 8 comprising multiplexing respective measurement signals from said plurality of electrical potential sensors, for supply to said signal evaluation device.

10. A method as claimed in claim 8 comprising, in said signal evaluation device, determining a position of the heart of the patient, with respect to the patient support device, by evaluating respective measurement signals from said plurality of electrical potential sensors.

A method as claimed in claim 10 comprising determining the position of the heart of the patient with respect to the patient support device by implementing a cross-correlation analysis of respective measurement signals originating respectively from electrical potential sensors that are adjacent to each other.

A method as claimed in claim 10 wherein said medical apparatus is a medical apparatus configured to obtain image information for generating an image of the heart of the patient, and comprising, from the determination of the position of the heart of the patient with respect to said patient support device, also determining, in said signal evaluation unit, at least one of a positional attitude of the patient on the patient support device, an alignment of the patient on the patient support device, and a portion of the body of the patient with respect to the patient support device.

A method as claimed in claim 8 comprising determining, in said signal evaluation device, at least one of a size of the patient, a positional attitude of at least one arm of the patient, a positional attitude of at least one leg of the patient, an attitude of the torso of the patient, and an attitude of the head of the patient, with respect to the patient support plate, from said measurement signals.

14. A method as claimed in claim 13 comprising also determining movement of said at least one arm, said at least one leg, said torso and said head of the patient with respect to the patient support device, from said measurement signals.

A method as claimed in claim 13 comprising determining respective positional attitudes of at least one internal organ or at least one tissue of the patient with respect to the patient support plate from the measurement signals, and from said signal evaluation device, operating said medical device to obtain information from said internal organ or said tissue.

16. A medical installation comprising

a medical apparatus;

a signal evaluation device supplied with said measurement signal from said at least one electrical potential sensor, and said medical apparatus being in communication with said signal evaluation device;

a contact device configured to be coupled to the body of a patient in said medical apparatus, said contact device having at least one electrical potential sensor integrated therein that interacts with the body of the patient when the contact device is coupled to the body of the patient,

said at least one electrical potential sensor, coupled to the body of the patient and in contact with the patient by means of the contact device, being configured to generate a measurement signal relating to a physiological activity of the patient selected from the group consisting of breathing activity and cardiac activity;

said signal evaluation device being supplied with said measurement signal and being configured to evaluate said measurement signal to obtain an evaluation result and, from said evaluation result, generate trigger signals; and

said signal evaluation device being configured to control operation of said medical apparatus based on said trigger signals.

A medical installation as claimed in claim 16 wherein said contact device is selected from the group consisting of a belt configured to be worn by the patient, a patient support plate of a patient support table, and a placement mat arranged on a patient support plate of a patient support table.

18. A medical installation as claimed in claim 16 wherein said medical apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a computed tomography apparatus, a C-arm x-ray apparatus, a PET apparatus, a SPECT apparatus, a magnetic resonance apparatus and a radiation therapy apparatus.

19. A non-transitory, computer-readable data storage medium encoded with programming instructions to control a medical apparatus of a medical installation, said medical installation comprising a contact device configured to be coupled to the body of a patient, said contact device having at least one electrical potential sensor integrated therein that interacts with the body of the patient when the contact device is coupled to the body of the patient, a computerized signal evaluation device supplied with said measurement signal from said at least one electrical potential sensor, and said medical apparatus being in communication with said signal evaluation device, said storage medium being loaded into said signal evaluation device and said programming instructions causing said signal evaluation device to:

communicate with said at least one electrical potential sensor coupled to the body of the patient and in contact with the patient by means of the contact device, to acquire a measurement signal relating to a physiological activity of the patient selected from the group consisting of breathing activity and cardiac activity;

evaluate said measurement signal to obtain an evaluation result and, from said evaluation result, generating trigger signals; and

from said signal evaluation device, control operation of said medical apparatus based on said trigger signals.
