1. A method of managing patient drug infusions using a medical pump of a type having a housing;
- a pump supported by the housing to receive an IV line therethrough;
at least one sensor supported by the housing to monitor a flow of material through the IV line when received within the medical pump, and an electronic computer supported by the housing and executing a stored program fixed in non-transitory media and communicating with the pump and at least one sensor to allow programming of at least a portion of the pump parameters controlling operation of the medical pump by a first user and to allow selectively restricting the programming of pump parameters by the first user from a second user;
the method comprising the steps of;
(a) receiving by a first individual, at a first work area, an order for a drug infusion providing a drug identification and infusion parameters;
(b) programming the medical pump with the pump parameters;
(c) programming the medical pump to restrict subsequent programming of selected pump parameters by a second user;
(d) transporting the programmed medical pump to a second individual at a second work area remote from the first work area; and
(e) activating the medical pump by the second individual according to its previous programming by the first individual.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for delivering intravenous drugs to a patient provides for remote loading and programming of IV pumps that may be shipped in a loaded and programmed configuration to a remote site for use with the patient. A special carrier may be provided for pneumatic delivery of the preloaded pump. Password enabled customizing of pump features according to specific user'"'"'s need may be provided to prevent undesired changing of the pump parameters at the remote site.
