Abstract

A mobile terminal is switched into a specific battery power saving mode based upon a usage pattern of the terminal so as to control battery power saving items individually or by each group. A method for switching a battery power saving mode of the mobile terminal includes analyzing a usage pattern of the terminal, automatically switching the terminal mode into a power saving mode according to the analyzed usage pattern, and controlling a displayed screen with respect to each event in the switched power saving mode.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a power saving mode in a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

analyzing a usage pattern of the mobile terminal;

activating the power saving mode according to the analyzed usage pattern; and

displaying a menu, on a display unit of the mobile terminal, for deactivating at least one component of the mobile terminal when the power saving mode is activated.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

analyzing the usage pattern when a battery level is below a threshold value; and

automatically deactivating at least one component of the mobile terminal are when the battery level is below the threshold value,

wherein the usage pattern comprises at least a battery usage pattern, a time-based call record, a time, a location of the mobile terminal, or a schedule.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

deactivating the power saving mode in response to receiving a user input at the mobile terminal, allowing a specific period of time to elapse, detecting movement of the mobile terminal, releasing a screen lock, generating an alarm, or charging a battery of the mobile terminal.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying an icon, on the display unit, for indicating that the power saving mode is activated.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

displaying the menu for deactivating the at least one component when the displayed icon is selected.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the at least one component comprises individual components or groups of components.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein:

each of the individual components comprise at least base station wireless data, mobile terminal sensors, or display settings; and

each of the groups of components comprise at least two of the individual components.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

activating an automatic answering function in response to receiving a call at the mobile terminal when the power saving mode is activated.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

downloading only text of a received e-mail that includes text and an attachment when the power saving mode is activated; and

downloading the attachment of the received e-mail when the power saving mode is deactivated.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

modifying content according to a type of the content when the power saving mode is activated.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

outputting only sound associated with a video when the content is the video.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

displaying only text of the content when the content includes the text and an image.

13. A method for controlling a power saving mode in a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

activating the power saving mode;

displaying an icon, on a display unit of the mobile terminal, indicating that the power saving mode is active;

displaying a power saving mode setting screen, on the display unit, in response to receiving an input on the displayed icon;

deactivating at least one component of the mobile terminal via the displayed power saving mode setting screen.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising activating the power saving mode in response to a touch and drag input on a displayed indicator bar.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the at least one component comprises individual components or groups of components.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein:

each of the individual components comprise at least base station wireless data, mobile terminal sensors, or display settings; and

each of the groups of components comprise at least two of the individual components.

17. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

deactivating the power saving mode when the input received at the displayed icon is for a period of time which is less than a threshold.

18. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

deactivating the power saving mode in response to receiving a specific input at the mobile terminal, allowing a specific period of time to elapse, detecting movement of the mobile terminal, releasing a screen lock, generating an alarm, or charging a battery of the mobile terminal.

19. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

activating an automatic answering function in response to receiving a call at the mobile terminal when the power saving mode is activated.

20. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

downloading only text of a received e-mail that includes text and an attachment when the power saving mode is activated; and

downloading the attachment of the received e-mail when the power saving mode is deactivated.

21. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

modifying content according to a type of the content when the power saving mode is activated.

22. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

outputting only sound associated with a video when the content is the video.

23. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

displaying only text of the content when the content includes the text and an image.

24. A mobile terminal comprising:

a display unit configured to display information associated with a power saving mode of the mobile terminal;

a storage unit configured to store settings associated with the power saving mode; and

a controller configured to control the display unit to display an icon for the power saving mode in response to a user input for activating the power saving mode and to control the display unit to display a menu for deactivating at least one component of the mobile terminal in response to an input received at the displayed icon.

25. The terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller is further configured to control the display unit to display the icon when a touch and drag input is received on an indicator bar displayed on the display unit.

26. The terminal of claim 24, wherein:

the at least one component comprises individual components or groups of components;

each of the individual components comprise at least base station wireless data, mobile terminal sensors, or display settings; and

each of the groups of components comprise at least two of the individual components.

27. The terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller is further configured to:

control the display unit to display the menu for deactivating the at least one component when the input on the displayed icon is receiving for a period of time that is greater than a threshold; and

deactivate the power saving mode when the input on the icon is received for a period of time that is less than the threshold.

28. The terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller is further configured to:

deactivate the power saving mode in response to receiving a specific input at the mobile terminal, allowing a specific period of time to elapse, detect movement of the mobile terminal, release a screen lock, generate an alarm, or charge a battery of the mobile terminal.

29. The terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller is further configured to

activate an automatic answering function in response to receiving a call at the mobile terminal when the power saving mode is activated.

30. The terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller is further configured to:

download only text of a received e-mail that includes text and an attachment when the power saving mode is activated; and

download the attachment of the received e-mail when the power saving mode is deactivated.

31. The terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller is further configured to modify content according to a type of the content when the power saving mode is activated.

32. The terminal of claim 31, wherein the controller is further configured to output only sound and control the display unit to turn off when the content is a video.

33. The terminal of claim 31, wherein the controller is further configured to control the display unit to display only text of the content when the content includes the text and an image.
