Abstract

A system and method for marking electronic devices for processing. A determination is made whether one or more electronic devices include customer personal information during at least receiving the one or more electronic devices. An electronic device is marked as quarantined in response to determining CPI is included on the electronic device. The electronic device is separated from an inventory of electronic devices in response to marking the electronic device.

Claims

1. A method for marking electronic devices for processing, comprising:

determining whether one or more electronic devices include customer personal information (CPI) during at least receiving the one or more electronic devices;

marking an electronic device as quarantined in response to determining CPI is included on the electronic device; and

separating the electronic device from an inventory of electronic devices in response to marking the electronic device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining is performed before shipping during a merchandising process, and wherein the marking includes electronically and physically marking the electronic device, and wherein the electronic device is electronically marked by associating a quarantine category with an identifier of the electronic device.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

removing the CPI from the electronic device for further processing the electronic device; and

determining whether the CPI is completely removed in response to removing the CPI from the electronic device.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

removing the quarantine marking in response to determining the CPI is completely removed from the electronic device.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the quarantine marking includes a physical label and a quarantine record.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining whether one or more electronic devices include CPI comprises:

randomly testing a plurality of electronic devices.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the identifier is a serial number, bar code, or radio frequency identification tag.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the separating comprises:

preventing the electronic device from being entered into a data processing system for processing in response to determining CPI is included on the electronic device.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving library updates to a data processing system for performing the determining for the one or more electronic devices.

10. A data processing system configured to mark electronic devices as including customer personal information (CPI):

a processor for executing a set of instructions; and

a memory for storing the set of instructions, wherein the set of instructions are executed by the processor to;

determine whether one or more electronic devices include CPI during at least receiving the one or more electronic devices;

mark an electronic device as quarantined in response to determining CPI is included on the electronic device; and

separate the electronic device from an inventory of electronic devices in response to marking the electronic device.

11. The data processing system of claim 10, wherein the determining is performed before shipping during a merchandising process, and wherein the marking includes electronically and physically marking the electronic device, and wherein the electronic device is electronically marked by associating a quarantine category with an identifier of the electronic device.

12. The data processing system of claim 10, wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

remove the CPI from the electronic device for further processing the electronic device; and

determine whether the CPI is completely removed in response to removing the CPI from the electronic device.

13. The data processing system of claim 10, wherein the set of instructions are executed to:

randomly testing a plurality of electronic devices.

14. The data processing system of claim 10, wherein the set of instructions are executed to:

prevent the electronic device from being entered into a data processing system for processing in response to determining CPI is included on the electronic device.

15. The data processing system of claim 10, wherein the set of instructions include one or more libraries for determining whether the one or more electronic devices include CPI, and where the one or more libraries are updated periodically.

16. The data processing system of claim 10, wherein the one or more libraries include a baseline memory map that is compared against a memory map of the one or more electronic devices to determine whether the one or more electronic devices include GPI.

17. A method for marking one or more electronic devices as including customer personal information (CPI), the method comprising:

determining whether one or more electronic devices include CPI utilizing one or more libraries storing a baseline memory map for the one or more electronic devices;

marking an electronic device as quarantined in response to determining CPI is included on the electronic device, wherein the marking includes electronically and physically marking the electronic device; and

separating the electronic device from an inventory of electronic devices in response to marking the electronic device.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

randomly testing the one or more electronic devices to determine whether CPI is included on the plurality of electronic devices; and

preventing identifiers associated with the plurality of electronic devices from being received in a data processing system in response to determining CPI is included

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

removing the CPI from the electronic device for further processing the electronic device; and

determining whether the CPI is completely removed in response to removing the GPI from the electronic device.

20. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

automatically determining the baseline memory map to be utilized for the one or more electronic devices.
