Abstract

A particular implementation accesses a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to a particular resolution. The particular implementation modifies the accessed disparity value based on multiple resolutions to produce a modified disparity value. Another implementation accesses a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the picture having a particular resolution, and the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to another resolution that is different from the particular resolution and that is based on multiple resolutions. A further implementation modifies the accessed disparity value to produce a modified disparity value indicating disparity with respect to the particular resolution.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to a particular resolution; and

modifying the accessed disparity value based on multiple resolutions to produce a modified disparity value.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein modifying comprises scaling the accessed disparity value by a factor that is based on the multiple resolutions.

3. The method of any of claim 1 wherein the multiple resolutions correspond to resolutions supported by a standard display.

4. The method of any of claim 1 wherein modifying comprises scaling the accessed disparity value based on a common multiple of the multiple resolutions.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the common multiple is the smallest common multiple of the multiple resolutions.

6. The method of claim 4 wherein the common multiple is 11,520.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the modified disparity value indicates disparity with respect to a non-standard resolution that is considerably larger than any resolution of a standard display.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the non-standard resolution is different from each of the multiple resolutions.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the picture has the particular resolution.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the modified disparity value is an integer.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the integer provides sub-pixel accuracy in disparity for the multiple resolutions.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the integer provides accuracy in disparity that is more accurate than ¼

pixel.

13. An apparatus comprising one or more processors collectively configured to perform:

accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to a particular resolution; and

modifying the accessed disparity value based on multiple resolutions to produce a modified disparity value.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 further comprising a memory for storing the modified disparity value.

15. An apparatus comprising:

means for accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to a particular resolution; and

means for modifying the accessed disparity value based on multiple resolutions to produce a modified disparity value.

16. A processor readable medium having stored thereon instructions for causing one or more processors to collectively perform:

accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to a particular resolution; and

modifying the accessed disparity value based on multiple resolutions to produce a modified disparity value.

20. A processor readable medium having stored thereon a signal structure, the signal structure comprising:

a disparity portion including a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the picture having a particular resolution, and the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to another resolution that is different from the particular resolution and that is based on multiple resolutions.

21. A method comprising:

accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the picture having a particular resolution, and the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to another resolution that is different from the particular resolution and that is based on multiple resolutions; and

modifying the accessed disparity value to produce a modified disparity value indicating disparity with respect to the particular resolution.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein modifying comprises scaling the accessed disparity value by a factor that is based on the multiple resolutions.

23. The method of any of claim 21 wherein the multiple resolutions correspond to resolutions supported by a standard display.

24. The method of any of claim 21 wherein modifying comprises scaling the accessed disparity value based on a common multiple of the multiple resolutions.

25. The method of claim 24 wherein the common multiple is the smallest common multiple of the multiple resolutions.

26. The method of claim 24 wherein the common multiple is 11,520.

27. The method of claim 21 wherein the another resolution is a non-standard resolution that is considerably larger than any resolution of a standard display.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the non-standard resolution is different from each of the multiple resolutions.

29. The method of claim 21 wherein the accessed disparity value is an integer.

30. The method of claim 21 wherein the modified disparity value is an integer.

31. The method of claim 29 wherein the integer provides sub-pixel accuracy in disparity for the multiple resolutions.

32. The method of claim 31 wherein the integer provides accuracy in disparity that is more accurate than ¼

pixel.

33. An apparatus comprising one or more processors collectively configured to perform:

accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the picture having a particular resolution, and the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to another resolution that is different from the particular resolution and that is based on multiple resolutions; and

modifying the accessed disparity value to produce a modified disparity value indicating disparity with respect to the particular resolution.

34. The apparatus of claim 33 further comprising a memory for storing the modified disparity value.

35. An apparatus comprising:

means for accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the picture having a particular resolution, and the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to another resolution that is different from the particular resolution and that is based on multiple resolutions; and

means for modifying the accessed disparity value to produce a modified disparity value indicating disparity with respect to the particular resolution.

36. A processor readable medium having stored thereon instructions for causing one or more processors to collectively perform:

accessing a disparity value for a particular location in a picture, the picture having a particular resolution, and the disparity value indicating disparity with respect to another resolution that is different from the particular resolution and that is based on multiple resolutions; and

modifying the accessed disparity value to produce a modified disparity value indicating disparity with respect to the particular resolution.
