- at least one main database containing medical records of a plurality of individuals,a plurality of mobile computing devices in intermittent communication with said at least one main database, each of said devices havingpatient list means for maintaining a list of patients,receiving information means for receiving information from a user regarding at least one of one of the patients and a newly entered patient, the information relating to the health of the patient,completing means for automatically completing a portion of the information required for a medical record of the patient based on information received by said receiving information means,non-volatile storage connected to said receiving information means and said completion means, said storage including a local database to store information provided by said receiving information means and said completing means, andmeans for transferring at least a portion of the information from the medical record of the patient stored in said storage during at least one period of communication with said at least one main database independent of user action through a wireless connection with said at least one main database,said patient list means, receiving information means, and said completing means operate independent of said at least one main database and computer network when no communication with said at least one main database is available.

A system and method used to create a longitudinal medical record for an injured person that in at least one embodiment begins a location remote from a medical facility. The system includes in at least one embodiment a plurality of mobile computing devices. In at least one embodiment, the mobile computing devices provide an interface for receiving information from a first responder or a medic.

7. A medical information system for a creation of a longitudinal medical record from a place remote from a medical facility through care provided at the medical facility while a patient is present at the medical facility, the system comprising:

at least one main database containing medical records of a plurality of individuals where said at least one main database is located at a medical facility, a plurality of mobile computing devices in intermittent communication with said at least one main database and capable of independent operation away from the medical facility, each of said devices having patient list means for maintaining a list of patients, receiving information means for receiving information from a user regarding at least one of one of the patients and a newly entered patient, the information relating to the health of the patient, completing means for automatically completing a portion of the information required for a medical record of the patient based on information received by said receiving information means, non-volatile storage connected to said receiving information means and said completion means, said storage including a local database to store information provided by said receiving information means and said completing means, and means for transferring at least a portion of the information from the medical record of the patient stored in said storage during at least one period of communication with said at least one main database independent of user action through a wireless connection with said at least one main database, said patient list means, receiving information means, and said completing means operate independent of said at least one main database when no communication with said at least one main database is available. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A computer program product for creation of a longitudinal medical record from a place remote from a medical facility through care provided at the medical facility while a patient is present at the medical facility, said computer program product comprising:

a computer readable storage medium having stored thereon; first program instructions executable by a mobile computing device to cause the mobile computing device to receive a selection of a patient from a user in response to a presentation of a list of patients to the user on a display of the mobile computing device; second program instructions executable by the mobile computing device to cause the mobile computing device to display an interface for receiving information regarding the selected patient from the user where the information received relates to a health event involving the selected patient; third program instructions executable by the mobile computing device to cause the mobile computing device to automatically complete a portion of the information required for a longitudinal medical record of the patient based on information received by said second program instructions; fourth program instructions executable by the mobile computing device to cause the mobile computing device to store the longitudinal medical record in non-volatile storage present on the mobile computing device where the longitudinal medical record includes information received by said second program instructions and completed by said third program instructions; and fifth program instructions executable by the mobile computing device to cause the mobile computing device to transfer at least a portion of the longitudinal medical record to a database maintained by a medical facility to which the patient is transported during at least one period of communication with the database independent of user action through a wireless connection with the database, and wherein said first, second, third, fourth, and fifth program instructions operate independent of the database maintained by the medical facility when no communication with the database is available. - View Dependent Claims (15)
