Abstract

A cargo management system receives parcel data associated with cargo on a vessel. The parcel data may include bill of lading date, successor and predecessor data, cargo type data, and the like. The cargo management system identifies parcels that may be related, performs a parcel validation on the identified parcels, and receives or determines a relationship between the parcels. Then, the cargo management system performs voyage validation on the related parcels to create a voyage. The cargo management system then calculates a loss associated with each parcel, between parcels, and the entire voyage.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for calculating a loss associated with at least two marine-related parcels, the computer-implemented method comprising:

identifying at least two marine-related parcels that may be related to each other, wherein each of the at least two marine-related parcels is associated with parcel data;

performing, using one or more computer processors, a first validation of the at least two marine-related parcels to verify a relationship between the at least two marine-related parcels, wherein the first validation is performed using, at least in part, the parcel data for each of the at least two marine-related parcels,

obtaining relationship data for each of the at least two marine-related parcels upon successful completion of the first validation;

automatically performing in real-time, using one or more computer processors, a second validation of the at least two marine-related parcels to verify the relationship data of the at least two marine-related parcels, wherein the second validation is performed using at least in part the relationship data; and

calculating a loss associated with the at least two marine-related parcels upon successful completion of the second validation.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the at least two marine-related parcels are identified automatically.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein performing a first validation comprises verifying that the parcel data for each of the at least two marine-related parcels contains at least one of the same cargo type data, a common vessel data, the same bill of lading date data and the same transportation mode data.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein performing the second validation comprises at least one of:

verifying that the parcel data for each of the at least two marine-related parcels includes at least relationship data;

verifying that each of the at least two marine-related parcels that does not include relationship data of a first type includes activity data of a first type;

verifying that each of the at least two marine-related parcels that does not include relationship data of a second type includes activity data of a second type;

verifying that at least one of the at least two marine-related parcels does not include relationship data of a first type and includes activity data of a first type; and

verifying that at least another parcel of the at least two marine-related parcels does not include relationship data of a second type and includes activity data of a second type.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein calculating a loss comprises calculating at least one of load loss, discharge loss, in-transit loss and voyage level loss.

6. A computer-readable non-transitory storage medium having computer-executable components for grouping parcels, the computer-executable components comprising:

an identification component that identifies parcels associated with parcel data that is similar;

a first validation component that validates that the identified parcels are related using parcel data for each of the parcels to form a first-validated group of parcels; and

a second validation component that validates the first-validated group of parcels to form a second-validated group of parcels, wherein the second validation component validates the first-validated group of parcels using at least a portion of relationship data that indicates how each parcel of the first-validated group of parcels is interrelated.

7. The computer-readable non-transitory storage medium of claim 6, wherein the identification component identifies the parcels automatically.

The computer-readable non-transitory storage medium of claim 6, wherein the first validation component verifies that the parcel data for each of the parcels contains at least one of the same cargo type data, a common vessel data, the same bill of lading date data and the same transportation mode data.

9. The computer-readable non-transitory storage medium of claim 6, wherein the second validation component performs at least one of:

verifying that the parcel data for each parcel of the first-validated group of parcels includes at least relationship data,

verifying that each parcel of the first-validated group of parcels that does not include relationship data of a first type includes activity data of a first type,

verifying that each parcel of the first-validated group of parcels that does not include relationship data of a second type includes activity data of a second type,

verifying that at least one parcel of the first-validated group of parcels does not include relationship data of a first type and includes activity data of a first type, and

verifying that at least another parcel of the first-validated group of parcels does not include relationship data of a second type and includes activity data of a second type.

10. The computer-readable non-transitory storage medium of claim 6, further comprising a loss calculation component that calculates a loss associated with the second-validated group of parcels.

11. The computer-readable non-transitory storage medium of claim 10, wherein the loss calculation component calculates at least one of load loss, discharge loss, in-transit loss and voyage level loss.

12. A computer-implemented method for forming a validated group of parcels, the computer-implemented method comprising:

under the control of one or more computing devices;

identifying a group of parcels that may be validated, wherein each parcel of the group of parcels is associated with parcel data;

validating the group of parcels using the parcel data for each parcel of the group of parcels; and

forming a validated group of parcels upon validating the group of parcels.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein the group of parcels comprises at least two marine-related parcels.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, further comprising calculating a loss associated with the validated group of parcels.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein calculating a loss comprises calculating at least one of load loss, discharge loss, in-transit loss and voyage level loss.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein validating the group of parcels comprises verifying obtained relationship data for the group of parcels.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 wherein validating the group of parcels comprises verifying that the parcel data for the each of the parcels contains at least one of the same cargo type data, a common vessel data, the same bill of lading date data and the same transportation mode data.

18. A system comprising:

a computer-readable storage medium that stores parcel data associated with parcels; and

a computer processor in communication with the computer-readable storage medium, the computer processor configured to;

identify a group of parcels that may be validated, wherein each parcel of the group of parcels is associated with the parcel data that is stored in the computer-readable storage medium and each parcel of the group of parcels comprises cargo,

validate the group of parcels using the parcel data of each parcel of the group of parcels, and

form a validated group of parcels upon validating the group of parcels.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein validating the group of parcels comprises determining that the cargo of each parcel in the group of parcels includes at least a portion of the same cargo at different times during a voyage.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the computer processor is further configured to:

obtain relationship data indicating one or more relationships between the parcels of the validated group of parcels; and

order the validated group of parcels chronologically using the relationship data to form a second-validated group of parcels.
