Abstract

To provide customized information to the user, a wireless communications network node receives a stream of data associated with a user. A first trend associated with at least a first attribute in the stream of data is identified, and based on the identified first trend, customized information is sent for presentation to the user at a mobile station.

21. A method for updating a hierarchical trend, the method comprising:

receiving data;

adding a node containing the data to a tree structure at a general level; and

updating the node until a trend is detected.

22. The method of claim 21 further comprising:

receiving customized information based on the trend; and

sending the customized information for presentation.

23. The method of claim 21 further comprising

constructing at least one sub-node under the node at the general level.

24. The method of claim 21 wherein the method is repeated for all nodes.

25. The method of claim 21 comprising an optimistic, pessimistic and compromise case.

26. The method of claim 21 wherein the trend is a major trend.

27. The method of claim 21 further comprising predicting whether the data is part of a trend and adjusting the data structure to reflect the outcome of the predicting.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the outcome of the predicting indicates the data is not part of a trend and subsequently pruning the data.

29. The method of claim 21 wherein the data in the node is determined to not be part of a major trend, and subsequently pruning the node.

30. The method of claim 21 comprising determining the data is related to an attribute and determining at least one value associated with the attribute.

31. The method of claim 30 wherein the attribute is one of a flat attribute or a hierarchical attribute.

32. The method of claim 30 further comprising assigning at least two threshold values to the attribute.

33. The method of claim 32 further comprising forming a trend vector based on the at least two threshold values.

34. The method of claim 30 wherein an occurrence of at least one value is recorded.

35. The method of claim 34 wherein a frequency of the occurrence of the at least one value forms an indicator regarding a significance level of a trend.

36. The method of claim 35 wherein customized information is provided based on the frequency of occurrence.
