Abstract

Certain aspects of the disclosure relate generally to techniques for managing scheduling requests (SRs) for resources for uplink transmission. For example, certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method for wireless communication including determining a transmit opportunity for transmitting SR for uplink resources based, at least in part, on a discontinuous reception (DRX) time cycle. According to certain aspects, a user equipment (UE) may delay transmitting the SR based on the DRX time cycle to prevent repeated interruption of the DRX cycle that may reduce benefits of the power-saving DRX scheme.

Claims

1. A method for wireless communications, comprising:

determining a transmit opportunity for transmitting a scheduling request (SR) for uplink resources based, at least in part, on a discontinuous reception (DRX) time cycle; and

transmitting the SR in the determined transmit opportunity.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmit opportunity comprises a first transmit opportunity occurring after the DRX time cycle.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining further comprises:

determining the transmit opportunity based on, at least in part, on if the transmit opportunity will occur during the DRX time cycle.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining further comprises:

determining the transmit opportunity based on, at least in part, on a SR delay parameter.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the SR delay parameter is determined based on a length of the DRX time cycle.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the SR delay parameter is determined based on channel condition.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the SR delay parameter comprises a first delay value corresponding to a good channel condition and a second delay value corresponding to a bad channel condition.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the first delay value is 20 msec and the second delay value is 5 msec.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining further comprises:

determining the transmit opportunity to be a first SR opportunity that will occur after a SR delay interval, the first SR opportunity not occurring after a delay threshold.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the delay threshold comprises a time value determined based, at least in part, on a general delay requirement for voice communications over the wireless communications.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining further comprises:

determining a transmission delay comprising a time interval to a first SR opportunity after a pre-determined SR delay; and

determining the transmit opportunity to be the first SR opportunity if the transmission delay does not exceed a delay threshold.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the determining further comprises:

determining the transmit opportunity to be a next immediate SR opportunity if the transmission delay does exceed the delay threshold.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

skipping one or more SR transmit opportunities that occur during the DRX time cycle.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

modifying a DRX process based on the determined transmit opportunity.

15. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for determining a transmit opportunity for transmitting a scheduling request (SR) for uplink resources based, at least in part, on a discontinuous reception (DRX) time cycle; and

means for transmitting the SR in the determined transmit opportunity.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the transmit opportunity comprises a first transmit opportunity occurring after the DRX time cycle.

17. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the means for determining further comprises:

means for determining the transmit opportunity based on, at least in part, on if the transmit opportunity will occur during the DRX time cycle.

18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the means for determining further comprises:

means for determining the transmit opportunity based on, at least in part, on a SR delay parameter.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the SR delay parameter is determined based on a length of the DRX time cycle.

20. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the SR delay parameter is determined based on channel condition.

21. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the SR delay parameter comprises a first delay value corresponding to a good channel condition and a second delay value corresponding to a bad channel condition.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the first delay value is 20 msec and the second delay value is 5 msec.

23. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the means for determining further comprises:

means for determining the transmit opportunity to be a first SR opportunity that will occur after a SR delay interval, the first SR opportunity not occurring after a delay threshold.

24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the delay threshold comprises a time value determined based, at least in part, on a general delay requirement for voice communications over the wireless communications.

25. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the means for determining further comprises:

means for determining a transmission delay comprising a time interval to a first SR opportunity after a pre-determined SR delay; and

means for determining the transmit opportunity to be the first SR opportunity if the transmission delay does not exceed a delay threshold.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the means for determining further comprises:

means for determining the transmit opportunity to be a next immediate SR opportunity if the transmission delay does exceed the delay threshold.

27. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising:

means for skipping one or more SR transmit opportunities that occur during the DRX time cycle.

28. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising:

means for modifying a DRX process based on the determined transmit opportunity.

29. A computer program product, comprising a computer-readable medium comprising code for:

determining a transmit opportunity for transmitting a scheduling request (SR) for uplink resources based, at least in part, on a discontinuous reception (DRX) time cycle; and

transmitting the SR in the determined transmit opportunity.

30. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor,

wherein the at least one processor is configured to;

determine a transmit opportunity for transmitting a scheduling request (SR) for uplink resources based, at least in part, on a discontinuous reception (DRX) time cycle; and

transmitting the SR in the determined transmit opportunity.
