Abstract

Systems and methods are presented for payment transaction overrides and system initiated payment splitting. In one embodiment, a first authorization request associated with a first account is monitored at an override computer, an override trigger is identified, and a transaction override approval is received. Override authorization requests are then sent, and responses to the override authorization requests are received at the override computer. A response to the initial authorization request is the sent based on the response received to the override authorization request. In alternative embodiments the override requests are cascaded, or include requests for new account creation.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

monitoring at a transaction override computer, a first authorization request associated with a first account;

comparing, using a processor of the transaction override computer, a user override preference with the first authorization request to identify an override trigger;

receiving a transaction override approval;

transmitting a transaction override authorization request in response to the transaction override approval;

receiving a response to the transaction override authorization request; and

transmitting a response to the first authorization request based on the response to the transaction override authorization request.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein identifying the override trigger further comprises identifying a first user account balance and a second user account balance from a transaction override database and comparing the sum of the first and second user account balances to a total amount of the authorization request.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

transmitting, from the transaction override computer to a mobile phone associated with the first account, a request for a transaction override approval via an alert module in response to receipt of the override trigger at the payment processing network.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the override trigger comprises the transaction override approval

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the transaction override authorization request comprises a first partial payment request associated with the first account and a first issuer and a second partial payment request associated with a second account and a second issuer.

6. A method comprising:

receiving at a transaction override computer, a first authorization request associated with a first account;

identifying, at the transaction override computer, an override trigger;

identifying, at the transaction override computer, a transaction override approval;

analyzing a second account that is different than the first account to determine a response to the first authorization request; and

transmitting, by the transaction override computer, a response to the first authorization request based at least in part on the analyzing of the second account.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

receiving, at the transaction override computer, a registration request associated with the first account; and

receiving, at the transaction override computer, the transaction override approval associating the first account with the second account as part of a registration account setting; and

storing, in a database, the transaction override approval.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein identifying, at the transaction override computer, a transaction override approval comprises communicating a search request to the database and receiving a search response from the database indicating that the database contains the transaction override approval.

9. The method of claim 6 wherein the override trigger comprises a determination, at the transaction override computer, that an account balance associated with the first account is insufficient to approve the first authorization request.

10. The method of claim 7 wherein the override trigger comprises a registration trigger setting received by the transaction override computer.

11. The method of claim 7 wherein the registration trigger setting received by the transaction override computer comprises a set of instructions to override a transaction when payment amount exceeds a predetermined threshold.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the second account is created in response to the override trigger, and wherein the second account is an installment payment account.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising communicating a request for a number of installments to a mobile device associated with the first account;

and

receiving a response identifying a number of installments at the transaction override computer.

14. A method comprising:

transmitting, from a point of sale device, a payment authorization request via a first communication path;

receiving at the point of sale device, a request for a transaction override approval via a second communication path that is different than the first communication path;

transmitting a response to the transaction override request; and

receiving, at the point of sale device, a response to the payment authorization request, wherein the response to the payment authorization request is based at least in part on the response to the transaction override request.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the request for a transaction override approval comprises a first cascaded partial payment authorization request.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the response to the transaction override request comprises an approval of the first cascaded partial payment authorization request.

17. The method of claim 16 further comprising receiving a second cascaded partial payment authorization request in response to the approval of the first cascaded partial payment authorization request;

and

communicating an approval of the second cascaded partial payment authorization request.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein receiving, at the point of sale device, a response to the payment authorization request comprising receiving a denial following a determination that a final cascading account associated with the first amount does not have a balance sufficient to cover a remaining transaction balance.

19. The method of claim 14 wherein the request for a transaction override approval comprises an approval request and an advertising offer that is different from the approval request.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein transmitting a response to the transaction override request comprises transmitting an acceptance of the approval request and an acceptance of the advertising offer.
