Abstract

A media management system including an application layer, a system layer, and a solid state drive (SSD) storage layer. The application layer includes a media data analytics application configured to assign a classification code to a data file. The system layer is in communication with the application layer. The system layer includes a file system configured to issue a write command to a SSD controller. The write command includes the classification code of the data file. The SSD storage layer includes the SSD controller and erasable blocks. The SSD controller is configured to write the data file to one of the erasable blocks based on the classification code of the data file in the write command. In an embodiment, the SSD controller is configured to write the data file to one of the erasable blocks storing other data files also having the classification code.

Claims

1. A media management system, comprising:

an application layer including a media data analytics application, the media data analytics application configured to assign a classification code to a data file;

a system layer in communication with the application layer, the system layer including a file system configured to issue a write command to a SSD controller, the write command incorporating the classification code of the data file; and

a solid state drive (SSD) storage layer in communication with the system layer, the SSD storage layer including the SSD controller and erasable blocks, the SSD controller configured to write the data file to one of the erasable blocks based on the classification code of the data file in the write command.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to assign the classification code based on a predicted life of the data file.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to assign the classification code based on an actual life span of the data file.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to assign the classification code based on at least one of historical information and metadata corresponding to the data file.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to assign the classification code based on heuristic information corresponding to the data file.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to assign the classification code based on contiguous portions of the data file.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to receive the classification code from a content provider.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the media data analytics application is configured to determine the classification code based on a likelihood that the data file remains in a cache associated with the file system.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the classification code is multi-dimensional.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the file system is configured to add the classification code to a logical block address of the data file.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the SSD controller is configured to write the data file to one of the erasable blocks storing other data files also having the classification code.

12. A computer system, comprising:

a processor configured to determine a classification code for a data file; and

a solid state drive (SSD) storage device in communication with the processor, the SSD storage device including an SSD controller and erasable blocks, the SSD controller configured to write the data file to one of the erasable blocks storing other data files also having the classification code.

13. The computer system of claim 12, further comprising a memory, the memory storing an application layer with a media data analytics application, the media data analytics application engaged by the processor to assign the classification code to the data file.

14. The computer system of claim 12, further comprising a memory, the memory storing a system layer with a file system configured to issue a write command to the SSD controller, the write command incorporating the classification code of the data file.

15. The computer system of claim 12, further comprising an input/output port configured to transport the data file to a network associated with the computer system.

16. The computer system of claim 12, further comprising at least one of a hard disk drive and an optical drive.

17. A method of media storage in a solid state drive (SSD), comprising:

receiving a classification code for a data file from a media data analytics application in an application layer; and

issuing a write command to a SSD controller, the write command instructing the SSD controller to store the data file based on the classification code of the data file in the write command.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the write command instructs the SSD controller to store the data file in an erase block where other data files also having the classification code are stored.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the classification code is based on at least one of a predicted life span and an actual life span of the data file.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the classification code is based on at least one of historical information and metadata corresponding to the data file.
