Abstract

A display device including a display panel displaying an original image at a first time and a converted image based on the original image at a second time. The average value of the luminance of a first pixel (of the original image) first time and the luminance of the first pixel (of the converted image) at the second time is substantially the same as the average value of luminance of a second pixel (of the original image) at the first time and the luminance of the second pixel (of the converted image) at the second time.

Claims

1. A display device, comprising:

a display panel having a plurality of pixels configured to display an original image at a first time and a converted image based on the original image at a second time,

wherein the average of the luminance of a first pixel of the display panel at the first time and the luminance of the first pixel of the display panel at the second time is substantially the same as the average of luminance of a second pixel of the display panel at the first time and the luminance of the second pixel of the display panel at the second time.

2. The display device of claim 1, wherein:

luminances of pixels in a merged image viewed by merging the original image and the converted image are substantially the same as each other.

3. The display device of claim 1, wherein:

the display device generates a shutter control signal controlling a left eye shutter and a right eye shutter and the shutter control signal opens the left eye shutter at the first time and opens the right eye shutter at the second time and closes the left eye shutter at the second time and closes the right eye shutter at the first time.

4. The display device of claim 3, wherein:

the display device is synchronized to a shutter member including the left eye shutter and the right eye shutter based on security information including an identification code or a password.

5. The display device of claim 3, wherein:

the gray values of the converted image are determined based on transformation and inverse transformation of tristimulus values of the original image.

6. The display device of claim 5, wherein:

the gray values of the converted image are determined based on normalization, linearization, de-linearization, and inverse normalization.

7. The display device of claim 3, wherein:

the converted image is displayed based on a security control signal activating a security mode.

8. The display device of claim 7, wherein:

while the security control signal is 1, the gray values of the converted image are determined based on a security mode look-up table and while the security control signal is 0, the gray values of the original image are modified based on a normal mode look-up table.

9. The display device of claim 7, further comprising:

a frame memory storing the original image,

wherein while the security control signal is 1, the original image is converted into the converted image frame by frame unit by using the frame memory and while the security control signal is 0, the gray values of the original image are modified based on a normal mode look-up table.

10. The display device of claim 7, further comprising:

a graphic processing unit configured to generate the converted image based on the original image by changing the gray values of the original image,wherein while the security control signal is 1, the converted image is generated by the graphic processor and while the security control signal is 0, the gray values of the original image are modified by the graphic processor.

11. The display device of claim 3, wherein:

the converted image is produced as a mosaic by adding a random noise block by block unit.

12. The display device of claim 11, wherein:

the original image is horizontally interlaced with black and the converted image is horizontally interlaced white;

or wherein

the original image is horizontally interlaced with white and the converted image is horizontally interlaced with black;

or wherein

the original image is vertically interlaced with black and the converted image is vertically interlaced with white;

or wherein

the original image is vertically interlaced with white and the converted image is vertically interlaced with black.

13. The display device of claim 12, wherein:

the gray values of the original image are remapped into a predetermined clipped gray range.

14. The display device of claim 3, wherein:

the original image is horizontally or vertically interlaced by using black or white and the converted image is horizontally or vertically interlaced by using white or black.

15. The display device of claim 14, wherein:

the gray values of the original image are remapped into a predetermined clipped gray range.

16. A driving method of a display device, comprising:

generating a first converted image based on an first original image by changing the gray values of the first original image;

displaying the first original image at a first time on a display panel of the display device and displaying the first converted image on the display panel at a second time,

wherein the average value of the luminance of a first pixel of the display panel at the first time and the luminance of the first pixel of the of the display panel at the second time is substantially the same as the average value of the luminance of a second pixel at the first time and the luminance of the second pixel at the second time.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising

generating a second converted image based on a second original image by changing the gray values of the second original image;

displaying the second original image at a third time on the display panel of the display device and displaying the second converted image on the display panel at a fourth time,

wherein the average value of the luminance of the first pixel of the display panel at the third time and the luminance of the first pixel of the of the display panel at the fourth time is substantially the same as the average value of the luminance of the second pixel at the third time and the luminance of the second pixel at the fourth time.

18. The method of claim 17,

the display device generates a shutter control signal controlling a left eye shutter and a right eye shutter and the shutter control signal opens the left eye shutter at the first time and opens the right eye shutter at the second time and closes the left eye shutter at the second time and closes the right eye shutter at the second time, and

wherein the shutter control signal opens the left eye shutter at the third time and opens the right eye shutter at the fourth time and closes the left eye shutter at the fourth time and closes the right eye shutter at the third time.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the first original image is a left eye image and the second original image is a right eye image.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein:

the display device generates a shutter control signal controlling a left eye shutter and a right eye shutter and the shutter control signal opens the left eye shutter at the first time and opens the right eye shutter at the second time and closes the left eye shutter at the second time and closes the right eye shutter at the second time.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

mosaic-processing the converted image by adding a random noise to the converted image block by block.

22. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

interlacing the original image horizontally or vertically by using black or white and interlacing the converted image horizontally or vertically by using white or black.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

remapping the gray values of the original image into a predetermined clipped gray range.
