WAVELENGTH SELECTIVE SWITCH WITH MULTIPLE INPUT/OUTPUT PORTS
First Claim
1. A multi-port wavelength selective switch comprising:
- a one dimensional array of input and output ports;
a wavelength dispersive element configured to receive input optical signals from the input ports, and to disperse wavelength components thereof; and
an array of beam steering devices, each of which is controllable to a position at which the beam steering device directs a wavelength component of an input optical signal received through a first input port to an output port and directs the same wavelength component of an input optical signal received through a second input port away from all of the output ports.

Abstract
A multi-port wavelength selective switch includes a one dimensional array of input and output ports. The multi-port wavelength selective switch further includes a wavelength dispersive element configured to receive input optical signals from the input ports, and to disperse wavelength components thereof. Additionally, the multi-port wavelength selective switch includes an array of beam steering devices. Each beam steering device is controllable to a position at which the beam steering device directs a wavelength component of an input optical signal received through a first input port to an output port and directs the same wavelength component of an input optical signal received through a second input port away from all of the output ports.

10. A method of switching selected wavelength components of a multi-wavelength input optical signal to a desired output port, the method comprising:
-
receiving a first input optical signal and a second input optical signal; dispersing the first and second input optical signals into wavelength components thereof; and controlling an array of beam steering devices such that one of the beam steering devices directs a wavelength component of the first input optical signal to one of output ports and concurrently directs the same wavelength component of the second input optical signal away from all of the ports. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
