- a heat sink;
a laser package mounted to the heat sink, the laser package including a laser chip having at least one emitting edge or surface;
a pair of lateral structures associated with the heat sink;
an elongated optical element positioned in front of the at least one emitting edge or surface of the laser chip;
wherein the elongated optical element extends between the pair of lateral structures associated with the heat sink, and is secured to each of the lateral structures at respective end of the elongated optical element.

Abstract
A light engine for a hand-held dermatological treatment device includes a heat sink, a laser package mounted to the heat sink, the laser package including a laser chip having at least one emitting edge or surface, a pair of lateral structures associated with the heat sink, and an elongated optical element positioned in front of the at least one emitting edge or surface of the laser chip. The elongated optical element extends between the pair of lateral structures associated with the heat sink, and is secured to each of the lateral structures at respective end of the elongated optical element.

a heat sink; a laser package mounted to the heat sink, the laser package comprising; an electrically insulative submount having a top surface; first and second areas of the submount top surface being covered with an electrically material to provide first and second conductive surface areas, the first and second areas being physically separated from each other by a non-conductive area of the submount top surface; a laser chip mounted to the first conductive surface area of the submount; and a plurality of conductors electrically connecting the laser chip to the second conductive surface area of the submount. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11)
