1. A method of implanting a coronary sinus pacing lead in a blood vessel of the heart of a patient, comprising the steps of:

  • a) passing a distal end portion of a guide wire from the coronary sinus, through at least one other blood vessel, and back into the coronary sinus;

    b) snaring the distal end portion of the guide wire located within the coronary sinus using a surgical tool extended into the coronary sinus;

    c) externalizing the distal end portion of the guide wire outside of the patient by withdrawing the surgical tool from the coronary sinus;

    d) passing a coronary angioplasty balloon catheter having a balloon associated therewith over a length of the guide wire such that the balloon is externalized outside of the patient;

    e) coupling the balloon to a coronary sinus pacing lead;

    f) inflating the balloon to temporarily engage a distal end portion of the lead to the catheter;

    g) pulling the distal end portion of the lead though the coronary sinus and into at least one other blood vessel by at least partially withdrawing the catheter from the coronary sinus; and

    h) disengaging the catheter from the lead.
