First Claim
1. A method of operating a vehicle having a prime mover powered by a main electrical power storage device, the method comprising:
- determining an estimated range of the vehicle based at least in part on at least one electrical characteristic of the main electrical power storage device at a present time;
determining at least an estimate of at least one travel distance between a present location and at least one destination;
comparing the determined travel distance with the determined estimated range; and
determining whether to limit an operational characteristic of the prime mover of the vehicle based at least in part on a result of the comparison of the determined travel distance and the determined estimated range.

A controller may control operation of one or more power converters to limit current and/or voltage supplied to a traction electric motor, accordingly.
