Abstract

A computational device that determines, based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce energy usage by first display elements, but not by second display elements and apply different sets of display parameters to the first and second display elements, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a second level of energy/unit area used by the second display elements.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

determining, by a framework and based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce energy usage of a plurality of first display elements, but not a plurality of second display elements, in at least one display; and

applying, by the framework, a first set of display parameters to the first display elements and a second set of display parameters to the second display elements, the values of one or more display parameters in the first and second sets of display parameters being different, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a second level of energy/unit area used by the second display elements.

The method of claim 1, wherein the ESD parameter is one or more of ESD voltage, current in and/or out of the ESD, ESD capacitance, ESD inductance, ESD current drain rate, ESD current discharge rate, ESD temperature, ESD state of charge, ESD depth of discharge, and ESD state of health, wherein the first and second sets of display parameters comprise one or more of luminance, brightness, intensity, aspect ratio, viewable image size, display resolution, refresh rate, response time, contrast ratio, and delta-E, wherein the first and second display elements used approximately the same amount of energy/unit area before the applying step, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 85% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one display comprises first and second displays, wherein the first display elements are in the first display and the second display elements are in the second display, wherein a first value of a first display parameter in the first set of display parameters is no more than 75% of a second value of the first display parameter in the second set of display parameters, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 75% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one display comprises first and second displays, wherein the first and second display elements are in a common display, wherein at least most of the first display elements have a black color while at least most of the second display elements have a non-black color, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 50% of the second level of energy/unit area.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the applying step comprises assigning a different value to each of a plurality of pixel and/or vector values to be displayed by the first display elements but not to each of a plurality of pixel and/or vector values to be displayed by the second display elements.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and second display elements are located in different displays and wherein the different display parameter is aspect ratio.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining, at a second later time based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce further energy usage of the first display elements; and

applying a third set of display parameters to the first display elements, the values of one or more display parameters in the first and third sets of display parameters being different, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a third level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements in response to the third set of display parameters.

8. A tangible and non-transient computer readable medium, comprising microprocessor executable instructions that, when executed:

determine, based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce energy usage of a plurality of first display elements, but not a plurality of second display elements, in at least one display; and

apply a first set of display parameters to the first display elements and a second set of display parameters to the second display elements, the values of one or more display parameters in the first and second sets of display parameters being different, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a second level of energy/unit area used by the second display elements.

The medium of claim 8, wherein the ESD parameter is one or more of ESD voltage, current in and/or out of the ESD, ESD capacitance, ESD inductance, ESD current drain rate, ESD current discharge rate, ESD temperature, ESD state of charge, ESD depth of discharge, and ESD state of health, wherein the first and second sets of display parameters comprise one or more of luminance, brightness, intensity, aspect ratio, viewable image size, display resolution, refresh rate, response time, contrast ratio, and delta-E, wherein the first and second display elements used approximately the same amount of energy/unit area before the applying step, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 85% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The medium of claim 9, wherein the at least one display comprises first and second displays, wherein the first display elements are in the first display and the second display elements are in the second display, wherein a first value of a first display parameter in the first set of display parameters is no more than 75% of a second value of the first display parameter in the second set of display parameters, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 75% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The medium of claim 9, wherein the at least one display comprises first and second displays, wherein the first and second display elements are in a common display, wherein at least most of the first display elements have a black color while at least most of the second display elements have a non-black color, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 50% of the second level of energy/unit area.

12. The medium of claim 8, wherein the applying step comprises assigning a different value to each of a plurality of pixel and/or vector values to be displayed by the first display elements but not to each of a plurality of pixel and/or vector values to be displayed by the second display elements.

13. The medium of claim 8, wherein the first and second display elements are located in different displays and wherein the different display parameter is aspect ratio.

14. The medium of claim 8, further comprising:

determine, at a second later time based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce further energy usage of the first display elements; and

apply a third set of display parameters to the first display elements, the values of one or more display parameters in the first and third sets of display parameters being different, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a third level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements in response to the third set of display parameters.

15. A computational device, comprising:

a framework operable to;

determine, based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce energy usage of a plurality of first display elements, but not a plurality of second display elements, in at least one display; and

apply a first set of display parameters to the first display elements and a second set of display parameters to the second display elements, the values of one or more display parameters in the first and second sets of display parameters being different, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a second level of energy/unit area used by the second display elements.

The device of claim 15, wherein the ESD parameter is one or more of ESD voltage, current in and/or out of the ESD, ESD capacitance, ESD inductance, ESD current drain rate, ESD current discharge rate, ESD temperature, ESD state of charge, ESD depth of discharge, and ESD state of health, wherein the first and second sets of display parameters comprise one or more of luminance, brightness, intensity, aspect ratio, viewable image size, display resolution, refresh rate, response time, contrast ratio, and delta-E, wherein the first and second display elements used approximately the same amount of energy/unit area before the applying step, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 85% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The device of claim 16, wherein the at least one display comprises first and second displays, wherein the first display elements are in the first display and the second display elements are in the second display, wherein a first value of a first display parameter in the first set of display parameters is no more than 75% of a second value of the first display parameter in the second set of display parameters, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 75% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The device of claim 16, wherein the at least one display comprises first and second displays, wherein the first and second display elements are in a common display, wherein at least most of the first display elements have a black color while at least most of the second display elements have a non-black color, and wherein the first level of energy/unit area is no more than about 50% of the second level of energy/unit area.

The device of claim 16, wherein the applying step comprises assigning a different value to each of a plurality of pixel and/or vector values to be displayed by the first display elements but not to each of a plurality of pixel and/or vector values to be displayed by the second display elements.

20. The device of claim 15, wherein the first and second display elements are located in different displays and wherein the different display parameter is aspect ratio.

21. The device of claim 15, wherein the framework is further operable to:

determine, at a second later time based on a sensed electronic storage device (ESD) parameter, to reduce further energy usage of the first display elements; and

apply a third set of display parameters to the first display elements, the values of one or more display parameters in the first and third sets of display parameters being different, whereby a first level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements is less than a third level of energy/unit area used by the first display elements in response to the third set of display parameters.
