Abstract

A wall-mountable hand dryer arranged for drying one side of a user'"'"'s hands at a time. The dryer has two nozzle sections—one for each hand—which nozzle sections are positioned towards the front of the dryer so that they are spaced away from the wall in use. The nozzle sections each extend to span the width of a user'"'"'s open hand and are arranged for directing drying air down onto the front or back of said hand as it is inserted lengthwise underneath the nozzle sections from the front of the dryer. The left-hand nozzle section is banked to the right and the right-hand nozzle section is banked to the left such that the user may bank his hands accordingly in use—this makes the drying action comfortable for the user.

Claims

1. A wall-mountable hand dryer for drying one side of a user'"'"'s hands at a time, the dryer having two nozzle sections—

one for each hand—

which nozzle sections are positioned towards the front of the dryer so that they are spaced away from the wall in use, the nozzle sections each extending to span the width of a user'"'"'s open hand and being arranged for directing drying air down onto the front or back of said hand as it is inserted lengthwise underneath the nozzle sections from the front of the dryer, wherein the left-hand nozzle section is banked to the right and the right-hand nozzle section is banked to the left.

2. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein each nozzle section comprises either an elongate air slot or row of air nozzles.

3. The hand dryer of claim 2, in which each nozzle section is an elongate air slot—

less than 1 mm in width—

and the dryer comprises a motor-driven fan arranged in fluid communication with the air slots for forcing airflow through the slots at an exit-airspeed in excess of 100 m/s.

4. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein the nozzle sections are arranged in a V-configuration when viewed from the front of the dryer.

5. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein the nozzle sections are provided along a front edge of the dryer.

6. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein the nozzle sections are provided on an underside of the dryer.

7. The hand dryer of claim 6, wherein the underside of the dryer is itself V-shaped, viewed from the front of the dryer.

8. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein the left-hand nozzle section is arranged to direct drying air along a first direction—

outwardly to the left of the dryer—

and the right-hand nozzle section is arranged to direct drying air in a second direction—

outwardly to the right of the dryer.

9. The hand dryer of claim 6, wherein the angle of divergence of the first and second direction is 100-120 degrees.

10. The hand dryer of claim 6, wherein the first and second directions have a forward component.

11. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein the nozzle sections are arranged for directing air forwardly down onto the hands at an angle of declination of more than 60 degrees.

12. The hand dryer of claim 1, wherein the nozzle sections are arranged for directing air substantially vertically downwards onto the hands.

13. The hand dryer of claim 1, comprising a downwardly pitched guide part positioned behind each nozzle section for guiding the pitch of the user'"'"'s hands underneath the nozzle sections.

14. The hand dryer of claim 10, wherein the guide part is set back behind the nozzle sections

15. The hand dryer of claim 14, wherein the guide part is set back a distance in excess of 5 mm.

16. The hand dryer of claim 13, wherein the guide part comprises a continuous ramp surface extending back to the wall in use.
