Abstract

An energy services bridge interposed between one or more energy service providers and an energy distribution network operator manages a plurality of diversified energy consumer service plans so as to be compliant with the physical and technical constraints of the transmission/distribution gird. The energy services bridge further conveys real-time information regarding the state of the transmission/distribution grid to the plurality of energy service providers enabling active management of the service plans and correspondingly active management of the transmission/distribution grid.

95. An energy system, comprising:

at least one energy services provider;

a distribution network operator; and

an energy services bridge interposed between the at least one energy services provider and the distribution network operator wherein the energy services bridge enables grid compatible energy services.

96. The energy system of claim 95, wherein grid compatible energy services are provided to one or more energy consumers by the at least one energy services provider.

97. The energy system of claim 95, wherein grid compatible energy services are provided to one or more energy consumers by the at least one distribution network operator.

98. The energy system of claim 95, wherein grid compatible energy services are provided to one or more energy consumers by the energy services bridge.

99. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge is operable to exchange information between the at least on energy service provider and the distribution network operator.

100. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge enables the distribution network operator to carry out actions based on information from the at least on energy services provider.

101. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge enables the at least on energy services provider to carry out actions based on information from the distribution network operator.

102. The energy system of claim 95, further comprising at least one energy service subscriber.

103. The energy system of claim 102 wherein the energy services bridge is interposed between the at least one service provider, the distribution network operator and the at least one energy subscriber.

104. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the distribution network operator is operable to perform distribution network management and distributes energy on an energy transmission/distribution grid.

105. The energy system of claim 104, wherein grid compatible energy services are provided to one or more energy consumers and wherein the one or more energy consumers can detach from and reattach to an energy transmission/distribution grid at will.

106. The energy system of claim 104 wherein grid compatible energy services are provided to one or more energy consumers and wherein the one or more energy consumers can regulate power flow at an interconnection point to the energy transmission/distribution gird at will.

107. The energy system of claim 95, wherein grid compatible energy services are responsive to grid operations of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

113. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge is operable to provide information to the at least one energy services provider to dynamically manage grid compatible energy services responsive to measured conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

114. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge is operable to provide information to the at least one energy services provider to dynamically manage grid compatible energy services responsive to calculated conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

115. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge is operable to provide information to the at least one energy services provider to dynamically manage grid compatible energy services responsive to predicted conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

116. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge provides the at least one energy services provider with normalized real time conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

117. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge conveys to the at least one energy services provider scheduled and varied conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

118. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge communicates normalized scheduled variations of an energy transmission/distribution grid to the at least one energy services provider.

119. The energy system of claim 95, wherein responsive to planned or unplanned events by one or more energy consumers, the energy services bridge manages varied energy requests responsive to operational and contractual constraints across an energy transmission/distribution grid.

120. The energy system of claim 95, wherein responsive to planned or unplanned events by one or more energy consumers, the at least one energy services provider manages varied energy requests responsive to operational and contractual access constraints to an energy transmission/distribution grid.

121. The energy system of claim 95, wherein grid compatible energy services includes a plurality of service classes.

122. The energy system of claim 121, wherein the energy services bridge enables individual, group or aggregate management of the plurality of service classes.

123. The energy system of claim 121, wherein individual, group, or aggregate management of the plurality of services classes occurs on a real time basis responsive to normalized real time conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

124. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge manages individual, group, or grid compatible energy services from the at least one services provider according to a set of common parameters.

125. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge delivers ancillary services to the distribution network operator from the at least one energy services provider.

126. The energy system of claim 125, wherein ancillary energy services comprise distributed energy resource generated energy management, capacity management, frequency management, energy reserve management, capacity reserves management, voltage management, Volt Ampere Reactive “

management, energy grid operating parameter management and energy grid constraint management.

127. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge is operable to provide controls to the at least one energy services provider to maintain technical grid constraint compliance.

The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge normalizes grid compatible energy services offered by the at least one energy services provider with technical and/or contractual constraints of an energy transmission/distribution grid managed by the distribution network operator.

129. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge normalizes aggregate grid compatible energy services of a plurality of energy services providers with conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

130. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge registers grid compatible energy services offered by the at least one energy services provider.

131. The energy system of claim 130, wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes information about compliance with technical and/or contractual grid constraints associated with grid compatible energy services.

132. The energy system of claim 130, wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes information about distributed energy resources associated with grid compatible energy services.

133. The energy system of claim 130, wherein responsive to registration of grid compatible energy services associated with one or more energy customers, registering the associated services with the energy services bridge.

134. The energy system of claim 130, wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes communication of an association of a particular grid compatible energy service with one or more energy customers to the distribution network operator.

135. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge provides active energy distribution management of the energy transmission/distribution grid.

136. The energy system of claim 95, wherein the energy services bridge dynamically adjusts grid compatible energy services responsive to information from the energy services providers, the one or more energy customers and/or the distribution network operator.

137. A method for management of grid compatible energy services in conjunction with an energy transmission/distribution grid, comprising:

publishing by a distribution network operator energy transmission/distribution grid constraints;

developing a grid compatible energy service by an energy services provider;

providing energy service access by the distribution network operator to an energy customer on behalf of the energy services provider; and

normalizing by an energy services bridge the grid compatible energy service with the energy transmission/distribution grid constraints.

138. The method of claim 137, further comprising identifying energy transmission/distribution grid constraint violations by each energy services provider.

139. The method of claim 138, further comprising managing energy transmission/distribution grid constraint compliance information.

140. The method of claim 139, further comprising managing by each energy services provider aggregate energy service access to the transmission/distribution grid.

141. The method of claim 137, wherein energy transmission/distribution grid constraints include technical constraints regarding interfacing distributed energy resources with the energy transmission/distribution grid.

142. The method of claim 137, wherein the grid compatible energy service includes engaging an energy consumer by the energy services provider with the grid compatible energy service.

143. The method of claim 137, further comprising managing a plurality of energy services classes on a real time basis responsive to normalized real time conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid

144. The method of claim 137, further comprising managing by the energy services bridge energy service access for each energy service provider responsive to contractual considerations.

145. The method of claim 137, further comprising managing by the energy services bridge energy service access for each energy service provider responsive to operational and/or physical considerations of the energy transmission/distribution grid.

147. The method of claim 137, further comprising dynamically adjusting grid compatible energy services responsive to information from the energy services providers, the one or more energy customers and/or the distribution network operator.

148. The method of claim 137, wherein responsive to changes in operational and/or physical conditions of the energy transmission/distribution grid, altering the grid compatible energy service.

149. The method of claim 137, wherein responsive to information from the energy service provider, altering distribution network operator operations.

152. The method of claim 137, further comprising registering grid compatible energy services offered by the at least one energy services provider with the energy services bridge.

154. The method of claim 152, wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes identification of one or more associated energy customers to the energy services bridge.

158. The method of claim 137, wherein normalizing includes normalizing aggregate grid compatible energy services of a plurality of energy services providers with real time conditions of the energy transmission/distribution grid.

159. The method of claim 137, further comprising conveying by the energy services bridge to the distribution network operator information about ancillary energy services from the at least one energy services provider.

160. The method of claim 137, further comprising conveying by the energy services bridge to the distribution network operator operable ancillary energy services from the at least one energy services provider.

161. The method of claim 137, further comprising conveying by the distribution network operator to the energy services bridge a request for ancillary energy services from the at least one energy services provider.

162. The method of claim 161, further comprising delivery of the ancillary energy services requested by the distribution network operator from the at least one energy services provider.

163. The method of claim 137, further comprising transfer of financial and contractual information for completing transactions for ancillary services delivered by the energy services bridge to the distribution network operator from the at least one energy services provider.

164. The method of claim 163, wherein ancillary energy services comprise distributed energy resource generated energy management, capacity management, frequency management, energy reserve management, capacity reserves management, voltage management, Volt Ampere Reactive “

management, energy grid operating parameter management and energy grid constraint management.

165. The method of claim 137, further comprising conveying, by the energy services bridge to the distribution network operator, information about ancillary energy services regarding aggregated services and distributed energy resources from the at least one energy services provider.

166. A method for management of grid compatible energy services in conjunction with an energy transmission/distribution grid, comprising:

publishing by a distribution network operator energy transmission/distribution market signals for procuring ancillary services for grid operations;

operating a market mechanism for clearing transactions between one or more of a distribution network operator, an energy services provider, an energy service subscriber, and distributed energy resources;

providing information regarding contractual obligations between the distribution network operator, the energy services provider, the energy service subscriber, and the distributed energy resources;

providing a financial clearing mechanism for transactions between the distribution network operator, the energy services provider, the energy service subscriber, and the distributed energy resources; and

normalizing by an energy services bridge the grid compatible energy service with energy transmission/distribution grid constraints.

167. A computer-readable storage medium tangibly embodying a program of instructions executable by a machine wherein said program of instructions comprises a plurality of program codes for enabling grid compatible energy services, said program of instructions comprising:

program code configured to publish energy transmission/distribution grid constraints for an energy transmission/distribution grid;

program code configured to collect information regarding compliance with the energy transmission/distribution grid constraints;

program code configured to provide one or more grid compatible energy services to an energy customer on behalf of one or more energy service providers; and

program code configured to normalize the one or more grid compatible energy services with the energy transmission/distribution grid constraints.

168. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to identify energy transmission/distribution grid constraint violations by each energy services provider.

169. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 168, further comprising program code configured to manage energy transmission/distribution grid constraint compliance information

170. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, wherein energy transmission/distribution grid constraints include technical and/or contractual constraints regarding interfacing distributed energy resources with the energy transmission/distribution grid.

171. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to provide information to enable management of a plurality of grid compatible energy services responsive to normalized conditions of an energy transmission/distribution grid.

172. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to manage energy service access for each energy service provider responsive to contractual considerations.

173. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to manage energy service access for each energy service provider responsive to operational and/or physical considerations of the energy transmission/distribution grid.

174. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to manage energy service access for each energy service provider responsive to conditions of the energy transmission/distribution grid.

The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to enable dynamic adjustment of grid compatible energy services responsive to information from the one or more energy services providers, the one or more energy customers and/or a distribution network operator.

176. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, wherein responsive to changes in operational and/or physical conditions of the energy transmission/distribution grid, further comprising program code configured to alter at least one of the one or more grid compatible energy services.

177. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 176 further comprising program code configured to alter distribution network operations responsive to information from the energy service provider.

178. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 176 further comprising program code configured to alter distribution network operations responsive to information from the energy consumer.

179. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 176 further comprising program code configured to alter distribution network operations responsive to information from distributed energy resources.

180. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to register grid compatible energy services offered by at least one energy services provider with a distribution network operator.

181. The computer readable storage medium of claim 180 wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes identification of an association between one or more energy customers and a selected grid compatible energy service to the distribution network operator.

182. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 180, wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes identification of the one or more energy customers to the distribution network operator.

183. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 180, wherein registration of grid compatible energy services includes communication of an association of a particular grid compatible energy service with one or more energy customers to the distribution network operator.

184. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to convey by an energy services bridge to a distribution network operator, ancillary energy services offered by the one or more energy services providers.

185. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to convey by an energy services bridge to the distribution network operator, operable ancillary energy services offered by the one or more energy services providers.

186. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 167, further comprising program code configured to convey by the distribution network operator to the energy services bridge a request for ancillary energy services from the one or more energy services providers.
