Abstract

According to one embodiment, an electronic device includes a content transmitter. The content transmitter is configured to output a content item including first data and second data to one transmission path, by applying a first copyright protection system to copyright protection of the first data and applying a second copyright protection system to copyright protection of the second data. The first copyright protection system involves encryption of data to be copyright-protected. The second copyright protection system involves no encryption of data to be copyright-protected.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a content transmitter configured to output a content item comprising first data and second data to one transmission path, by applying a first copyright protection system to copyright protection of the first data and applying a second copyright protection system to copyright protection of the second data, the first copyright protection system involving encryption of data to be copyright-protected, the second copyright protection system involving no encryption of data to be copyright-protected.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein:

the first data comprises video data; and

the second data comprises audio data.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein:

the first copyright protection system comprises a high-bandwidth digital content protection system (HDCP) 2.0 or a succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0; and

the second copyright protection system comprises a serial copy management system (SCMS).

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the content transmitter is configured to notify another electronic device receiving the second data of whether or not to require copyright protection of the second data to which the second copyright protection system is applied, by using information indicating whether or not to require copyright protection specified by the first copyright protection system applied to copyright protection of the first data.

5. The device of claim 4, wherein:

the first copyright protection system comprises a HDCP 2.0 or a succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0; and

the content transmitter is configured to notify whether or not to require copyright protection of the second data by using a registration_descriptor specified by the HDCP 2.0 or the succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the content transmitter is configured to notify another electronic device receiving the second data of whether or not to require copyright protection of the second data, by communication carried out via the transmission path.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein:

the second copyright protection system comprises a SCMS; and

the content transmitter is configured to notify another electronic device of copy control information specified by the SCMS.

8. An electronic device comprising:

a content receiver configured to receive at least second data in a content item comprising first data and the second data, the content item being output to one transmission path by applying a first copyright protection system to copyright protection of the first data and applying a second copyright protection system to copyright protection of the second data, the first copyright protection system involving encryption of data to be copyright-protected, the second copyright protection system involving no encryption of data to be copyright-protected.

9. The device of claim 8, wherein:

the first data comprises video data; and

the second data comprises audio data.

The device of claim 8, further comprising a determination module configured to determine whether or not copyright protection of the second data to which the second copyright protection system is applied is present based on information indicating whether or not to require copyright protection specified by the first copyright protection system applied to copyright protection of the first data.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein:

the first copyright protection system comprises a HDCP 2.0 or a succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0; and

the determination module is configured to determine whether or not copyright protection of the second data is present based on presence/absence of a registration_descriptor specified by the HDCP 2.0 or the succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0.

12. The device of claim 8, further comprising a determination module configured to determine whether or not copyright protection of the second data is present based on notification from another electronic device which is the transmission source of the content item.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein:

the second copyright protection system comprises a SCMS; and

the determination module is configured to determine whether or not copyright protection of the second data is present based on copy control information specified by the SCMS, which is notified from another electronic device.

14. A method of transmitting a content item for an electronic device which transmits the content item comprising first data and second data to one or more other electronic devices, the method comprising:

outputting the content item to one transmission path by applying a first copyright protection system to copyright protection of the first data and applying a second copyright protection system to copyright protection of the second data, the first copyright protection system involving encryption of data to be copyright-protected, the second copyright protection system involving no encryption of data to be copyright-protected.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein:

the first data comprises video data; and

the second data comprises audio data.

The method of claim 14, further comprising notifying the one or more other electronic devices receiving the second data of whether or not to require copyright protection of the second data to which the second copyright protection system is applied, by using information indicating whether or not to require copyright protection specified by the first copyright protection system applied to copyright protection of the first data.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein:

the first copyright protection system comprises a HDCP 2.0 or a succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0; and

the notifying comprises notifying whether or not to require copyright protection of the second data by using a registration_descriptor specified by the HDCP 2.0 or the succeeding standard of the HDCP 2.0.

18. The method of claim 14, further comprising notifying the one or more other electronic devices receiving the second data of whether or not to require copyright protection of the second data, by communication carried out via the transmission path.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein:

the second copyright protection system comprises a SCMS; and

the notifying comprises notifying the one or more other electronic devices of copy control information specified by the SCMS.
