Abstract

The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing carboxylated starch derivatives as well a their use as osmotics in particular for use in the treatment of chronic renal failure by dialysis.

Claims

1. Carboxylated starch derivatives of the general structure I

2. The carboxylated starch derivatives according to claim 1, wherein the degree of oxidation is between ≧

0.01 and ≦

1.

3. The carboxylated starch derivatives according to claim 1, wherein the degree of oxidation is between 0.05 and 0.98.

4. The carboxylated starch derivatives according to claim 1, wherein a 7.5 wt % aqueous solution of the carboxylated starch has an osmolarity of ≧

3 mOsm/L.

5. The carboxylated starch derivatives according to claim 1 for use in the treatment of chronic renal failure by dialysis, preferably hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

6. Use of a carboxylated starch derivative according to claim 1 for adjusting the tonicity of pharmaceutical drugs.

7. A dialysis solution containing at least one carboxylated starch derivative according to claim 1.

8. A kit configured for preparing the dialysis solution according to claim 7, comprising

a first component,

a second component, and

optionally one or more additional components,

wherein by mixing the first component with the second component and optionally with the additional component(s), said dialysis solution is obtained.

9. A solid composition suitable for preparing the dialysis solution according to claim 7, wherein the dialysis solution is obtained by dissolving the solid composition in a solvent.

10. Use of

at least one carboxylated starch derivative according to claim 1,

for preparing a dialysis solution.

11. Use of

a kit according to claim 8

for preparing a dialysis solution.

12. Use of

a solid composition according to claim 9,

for preparing a dialysis solution.
