Abstract

A touch panel capable of detecting a pen and a finger, capable of corresponding to multi-touch, capable of detecting pressing force, and capable of reducing the use amount of a transparent electrode as much as possible. The touch panel has a piezoelectric sheet of poly-L-lactic acid having a predetermined stretching axial direction, electrodes that are opposed to each other and formed on the piezoelectric sheet do not cover the entire surface of the piezoelectric sheet and are formed so that they are discretely distributed in plural positions. The piezoelectric sheet is brought into the condition that tension is imparted in directions not coincident with the stretching axial direction.

Claims

1. A touch panel comprising:

a piezoelectric sheet of poly-L-lactic acid having a stretching axis oriented in a predetermined direction and having first and second opposed surfaces;

a plurality of first electrodes distributed discretely in plural positions on the first surface of said piezoelectric sheet; and

a plurality of second electrodes distributed discretely in plural positions on the second surface of said piezoelectric sheet and respectively opposing the plurality of first electrodes so as to form a plurality of sets of opposed electrodes.

2. The touch panel according to claim 1, wherein said piezoelectric sheet is in such a condition that tension is imparted in a direction not coincident with said stretching axis.

3. The touch panel according to claim 2, further comprising a surface protection film adjacent the first surface of said piezoelectric sheet.

The touch panel according to claim 3, wherein said piezoelectric sheet is bonded to said surface protection film with a curable adhesive in a region extending in a direction not coincident with said stretching axis, and is bonded together with said surface protection film with a non-curable adhesive in a remaining region.

5. The touch panel according to claim 1, further comprising a surface protection film adjacent one of the first surface and the second surface of said piezoelectric sheet.

6. The touch panel according to claim 1, wherein among said plurality of first and second electrodes, electrodes that are situated in an outer circumferential part of said piezoelectric sheet are electrodes selected from the group consisting of aluminum, copper, gold and nickel.

The touch panel according to claim 1, further comprising a display surface overlapping the touch panel, and wherein, among said plurality of first and second electrodes, an electrode positioned to block sight toward said display surface is an electrode selected from the group consisting of indium tin oxide, indium oxide•

zinc oxide, zinc oxide and polythiophene.

8. A touch-type input apparatus comprising:

the touch panel according to claim 1; and

a processor configured to calculate a pressing position where a pressing operation is made and a pressing force of the pressing operation by comparing voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes when the pressing operation is made on said touch panel by;

preliminary storing said voltages that are obtained by setting grid matrix coordinates on an operation surface of said touch panel;

measuring said voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes in association with the pressing operation by predetermined weight application on each grid point of said grid matrix coordinates, as base voltages in said respective grid points;

determining an actual measured voltage generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes in association with an actual pressing operation made on said operation surface of said touch panel;

calculating a ratio of said actual measured voltage relative to said base voltage for each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes for each of said grid points;

determining an average of said ratio for each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes for each of said grid points;

determining a standard deviation of said ratio for each of said grid points;

ranking said grid points in ascending order of said standard deviation;

selecting predetermined top n grid points in said ranked grid points;

determining a coordinate (X, Y) of an actual pressing position at which the actual pressing operation is made as

when the coordinate of said selected grid point is represented by (Xk, Yk) (k=1, 2, . . . , n), and said standard deviation is represented by Sk (k=1, 2, . . . , n); and

determining an actual pressing force of the actual pressing operation by multiplying said applied weight by said average of said ratio of the top grid point in the ranking.

9. The touch-type input apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said piezoelectric sheet is in such a condition that tension is imparted in a direction not coincident with said stretching axis.

10. The touch-type input apparatus according to claim 9, further comprising a surface protection film adjacent the first surface of said piezoelectric sheet.

The touch-type input apparatus according to claim 10, wherein said piezoelectric sheet is bonded to said surface protection film with a curable adhesive in a region extending in a direction not coincident with said stretching axis, and is bonded together with said surface protection film with a non-curable adhesive in a remaining region.

12. The touch-type input apparatus according to claim 8, further comprising a surface protection film adjacent one of the first surface and the second surface of said piezoelectric sheet.

13. The touch-type input apparatus according to claim 8, wherein among said plurality of first and second electrodes, electrodes that are situated in an outer circumferential part of said piezoelectric sheet are electrodes selected from the group consisting of aluminum, copper, gold and nickel.

The touch-type input apparatus according to claim 8, further comprising a display surface overlapping, the touch panel, and wherein, among said plurality of first and second electrodes, an electrode positioned to block sight toward said display surface is an electrode selected from the group consisting of indium tin oxide, indium oxide•

zinc oxide, zinc oxide and polythiophene.

15. A method for controlling a touch-type input apparatus comprising a piezoelectric sheet of poly-L-lactic acid having a stretching axis oriented in a predetermined direction and having first and second opposed surfaces, a plurality of first electrodes distributed discretely in plural positions on the first surface of said piezoelectric sheet, and a plurality of second electrodes distributed discretely in plural positions on the second surface of said piezoelectric sheet and respectively opposing the plurality of first electrodes so as to form a plurality of sets of opposed electrodes, and a processor configured to calculate a pressing position where a pressing operation is made and a pressing force of the pressing operation by comparing voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes when the pressing operation is made on said touch panel, the method comprising:

setting grid matrix coordinates on an operation surface of said touch panel;

measuring said voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes in association with the pressing operation by predetermined weight application on each grid point of said grid matrix coordinates; and

storing said voltages in a memory as base voltages in said respective grid points;

determining an actual measured voltage generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes in association with an actual pressing operation made on said operation surface of said touch panel;

calculating a ratio of said actual measured voltage relative to said base voltage for each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes for each of said grid points;

determining an average of said ratio for each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes for each of said grid points;

determining a standard deviation of said ratio for each of said grid points;

ranking said grid points in ascending order of said standard deviation;

selecting predetermined top n grid points in said ranked grid points;

determining a coordinate (X, Y) of an actual pressing position at which the actual pressing operation is made as

when the coordinate of said selected grid point is represented by (Xk, Yk) (k=1, 2, . . . , n), and said standard deviation is represented by Sk (k=1, 2, . . . , n); and

determining an actual pressing force of the actual pressing operation by multiplying said applied weight by said average of said ratio of the top grid point in the ranking.

16. The method for controlling a touch-type input apparatus according to claim 15, wherein said voltages and said actual measured voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes are detected at a time of operation in a pressing direction on said operation surface of said touch panel.

17. The method for controlling a touch-type input apparatus according to claim 16, the method further comprising determining whether the voltages and the actual measured voltages are detected at the time of operation in the pressing direction on said operation surface of said touch panel based on a polarity of a largest absolute value voltage and a largest absolute value actual measured voltage among the voltages and the actual measured voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes.

The method for controlling a touch-type input apparatus according to claim 15, wherein said voltages and said actual measured voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes are detected at a time of operation in a reverse pressing direction on said operation surface of said touch panel.

The method for controlling a touch-type input apparatus according to claim 18, the method further comprising determining whether the voltages and the actual measured voltages are detected at the time of operation in the reverse pressing direction on said operation surface of said touch panel based on a polarity of a largest absolute value voltage and a largest absolute value actual measured voltage among the voltages and the actual measured voltages generated in each set of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes.

20. The method for controlling a touch-type input apparatus according to claim 15, wherein, among said base voltages, a base voltage in a set of electrodes of said plurality of sets of opposed electrodes showing a voltage value smaller than a predetermined threshold is not used.
