Abstract

A method includes identifying one or more features of a short term profile of a user that are not included in a long term profile of the user, using the one or more features to identify one or more third party profiles having features that substantially match the one or more features of the user'"'"'s short term profile, accessing the identified one or more third party profiles, and providing one or more content items included in the third party profile to the user, the one or more content items having associated features that match the one or more features of the short term profile. An alternative method includes accessing one or more third party profiles that are not a profile of the user, and using the accessed third party profile to identify a plurality of content items for recommendation based on a feature set of the third party profile.

21. A method for personalizing content for a user, the method comprising:

accessing, using at least one processor, one or more third party profiles associated with a social network;

identifying a plurality of recommended content items provided to the one or more of the third party profiles, the content items being based on a feature set of the one or more third party profiles; and

instructing the display of at least one of the plurality of recommended content items on a user interface

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the feature set comprises third party interests, each third party interest represented by at least one of a unique identifier of the feature set, a weighting factor, and an aging value of the interest.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the social network of the user is different than the social network associated with the one or more third party profiles.

24. A method for personalizing content for a user, the method comprising:

accessing, using at least one processor, a short term profile of the user on a social network;

identifying a feature set of the short term profile;

accessing one or more third party long term profiles, wherein the one or more third party profiles comprise a feature set that substantially matches the feature set of the short term profile;

identifying a plurality of recommended content items provided to the one or more third party profiles; and

instructing the display of at least one of the plurality of recommended content items on a user interface.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the short term profile is based on a history of user inputs during a networking session.

26. The method of claim 24, wherein the one or more long term profiles are based on a history of user inputs during a plurality of networking sessions.

27. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

enabling the user to interact with the plurality of recommended content items on the user interface; and

updating the short term profile based on the user'"'"'s interaction with the plurality of recommended content items.

28. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

identifying an owner of the one or more third party profiles;

determining that the owner is conducting a networking session; and

enabling the user to communicate with the owner during the networking session.

29. A non-transitory storage medium storing a computer program that, when executed, cause a computer system to perform a method for personalizing content for a user, the method comprising:

accessing a short term profile of the user on a social network;

identifying a feature set of the short term profile;

accessing one or more third party long term profiles, wherein the one or more third party profiles comprise a feature set that substantially matches the feature set of the short term profile;

identifying a plurality of recommended content items provided to the one or more third party profiles; and

instructing the display of at least one of the plurality of recommended content items on a user interface.

30. The storage medium of claim 29, wherein the short term profile is based on a history of user inputs during a single networking session.

31. The storage medium of claim 29, wherein the one or more long term profiles are based on a history of user inputs during a plurality of networking sessions.

32. The storage medium of claim 30, wherein the computer program is further executed by the computer system for:

enabling the user to interact with the plurality of recommended content items on the user interface; and

updating the short term profile based on the interaction with the plurality of recommended content items.

33. The storage medium of claim 31, wherein the computer program is further executed by the computer system for:

identifying an owner of the one or more third party profiles;

determining that the owner is conducting a networking session; and

enabling the user to communicate with the owner during the networking session.
