Abstract

A method and device for providing information about a medical condition are described herein. The device can include a memory storage that contains information relating to correlations between data for physiological systems, the correlations being indicative of distress conditions of a patient. The device can also include a monitor that gathers information about the physiological systems of the patient, reads from the memory storage, and identifies a distress condition based on correlations between data for the physiological systems. Furthermore, the device can include a display processor that provides a visual display of correlations between the physiological systems as a storm spreading across visual depictions of the physiological systems in response to the identification of the distress condition providing a metaphorical, color weather map visualization of the dynamic progression, expansion and relational severity of the distress condition.

Claims

1. A device for displaying information about a medical condition, comprising:

a monitor that gathers information about the physiological systems of the patient, reads from the memory storage, identifies time dimensioned dynamic patterns of the data related to a distressed condition, determines the severity of the perturbation patterns for a plurality of physiological systems; and

a display processor that provides a visual display of time dimensioned output of the severity of the dynamic patterns as a storm spreading across visual depictions of the physiological systems comprising a metaphorical, color weather map visualization of a dynamic progression, expansion and relational severity of the perturbation patterns as they spread across physiologic systems.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the physiological systems comprise at least two of an inflammatory system, a hemodynamic system, a respiratory system, a metabolic system, and a renal system.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the display comprises a plurality of regions, wherein each of the plurality of regions displays information for a physiological system.

4. The device of claim 3, wherein the storm spreads across the plurality of regions as each of the plurality of regions displays indications of a distress condition in a physiological system.

5. The device of claim 3, wherein the storm develops independently in at least two of the plurality of regions and the storm merges into one storm as the distress condition affects a growing number of the physiological system.

6. The device of claim 3, wherein the storm undergoes a transformation as time elapses.

7. The device of claim 1 wherein the device is programmed so that a user may drill down to see pathophysiologic occurrences which generated the storm pattern to provide the user with computational transparency.

8. The device of claim 1 wherein the device is programmed so that a user may elect to see an object flow view or a diagram, wherein the object flow or the diagram may be animated to provide timed illustration of a flow of detected occurrences which generated the storm pattern to provide the user with computational transparency.

9. A device for providing information about a medical condition, comprising:

a memory storage that contains information relating to software elements based on pathophysiological occurrence and the time series matrix data, being indicative of distress conditions of a patient;

a monitor that gathers information about the physiological systems of the patient, reads from the memory storage, identifies time dimensioned dynamic patterns of the data, determines the severity of the patterns, identifies a distress condition based at least on a relative match between the dynamic patterns of the data for a plurality of physiological systems; and

a display processor that provides a visual display of relationships between the physiological systems as a spreading pattern across depictions of the physiological systems affected by the identified distress condition comprising a metaphorical, color weather map visualization of a dynamic progression, expansion and relational severity of the distress condition.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein the physiological systems comprise at least two of an inflammatory system, a hemodynamic system, a respiratory system, a metabolic system, and a renal system.

11. The device of claim 9, wherein the display comprises a plurality of regions, wherein each of the plurality of regions displays information for a physiological system.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the spreading pattern spreads across the plurality of regions as each of the plurality of regions displays indications of the distress condition in a physiological system.

13. The device of claim 11, wherein at least two spreading patterns develop independently in at least two of the plurality of regions and the at least two spreading patterns merge into one spreading pattern as the distress condition affects a growing number of the physiological system.

14. The device of claim 11, wherein the spreading pattern undergoes a transformation as time elapses.

15. A method for providing information about a medical condition, comprising:

comparing information for physiological systems for a patient to the information for relationships stored in a memory storage;

identifying a specific distress condition affecting the patient based on the relationships stored in the memory storage; and

displaying a visual representation of the relationships between the physiological systems as a storm spreading across depictions of the physiological systems affected by the identified distress condition comprising a metaphorical, color weather map visualization of a dynamic progression, expansion, and relational severity of the distress condition.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the physiological systems comprise at least two of an inflammatory system, a hemodynamic system, a respiratory system, a metabolic system, and a renal system.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the visual representation comprises a plurality of regions, wherein each of the plurality of regions displays information for a physiological system.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the storm spreads across the plurality of regions as each of the plurality of regions displays indications of the distress condition in a physiological system.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the storm develops independently in at least two of the plurality of regions and the storm merges into one storm as the distress condition affects a growing number of the physiological system.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the storm undergoes a transformation as time elapses.

21. A method for providing information about a medical condition, comprising:

receiving data relating to a plurality of different perturbations occurring within a plurality of different physiologic systems of a patient;

displaying a visual representation of the relationships of the perturbations between the physiological systems as a spreading pattern across depictions of the physiological systems comprising a metaphorical, color weather map visualization of a dynamic progression, expansion and relational severity of the pertubations.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the physiological systems comprise at least two of an inflammatory system, a hemodynamic system, a respiratory system, a metabolic system, and a renal system.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the visual representation comprises a plurality of regions, wherein each of the plurality of regions displays information for a physiological system.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the spreading pattern spreads across the plurality of regions as each of the plurality of regions displays indications of the distress condition in a physiological system.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein at least two spreading patterns develop independently in at least two of the plurality of regions and the at least two spreading patterns merge into one spreading pattern as the perturbations affect a growing number of the physiological systems.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein the spreading pattern undergoes a transformation as time elapses.

27. At least one non-transitory machine readable medium comprising a plurality of instructions that, in response to being executed on a computing device, cause the computing device to:

compare information for physiological systems for a patient to the information for relationships stored in a memory storage;

identify a specific distress condition affecting the patient based on the relationships stored in the memory storage; and

display a visual representation of the relationships between the physiological systems as a storm spreading across depictions of the physiological systems affected by the identified distress condition to provide a metaphorical, color weather map visualization of a dynamic progression, expansion and relational severity of the distress condition.

28. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 27, wherein the physiological systems comprise at least two of an inflammatory system, a hemodynamic system, a respiratory system, a metabolic system, and a renal system.

29. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 27, wherein the visual representation comprises a plurality of regions, wherein each of the plurality of regions displays information for a physiological system.

30. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 29, wherein the storm spreads across the plurality of regions as each of the plurality of regions displays indications of the distress condition in a physiological system.

31. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 29, wherein the storm develops independently in at least two of the plurality of regions and the storm merges into one storm as the distress condition affects a growing number of the physiological system.

32. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 29, wherein the storm undergoes a transformation as time elapses.
