Abstract

Systems and methods for dynamically sizing, structuring and operating advertisements that include a variety of content, including interaction prompts and other elements, which enable an engagement-based revenue generation model. According to one embodiment, a computer implemented method comprises storing advertising content, serving an XML file from an advertising server to an advertisement manager in order to control a player on a user computer, dynamically generating the advertisement through the player based on directions from the advertisement manager and the stored content, and tracking and reporting a user'"'"'s engagement with the advertisement in order to determine compensation for the publisher.

Claims

1. An advertisement display device, comprising:

a storage device configured to store an advertisement display application, one or more webpages, and one or more advertisements; and

a processor;

wherein the advertisement display application configures the processor to;

receive a webpage, where the webpage comprises instructions specifying how a second advertisement will be displayed in response to interactions with a first advertisement;

receive a first advertisement, where the first advertisement comprises an engagement warning;

receive a second advertisement;

determine when an interaction with the first advertisement has occurred;

display the engagement warning in response to the interaction with the first advertisement, where the engagement warning indicates that further interaction with the first advertisement will cause an action by the webpage;

hide the engagement warning when further interaction with the first advertisement does not occur; and

display the second advertisement in response to further interaction with the first advertisement.

2. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein the web browser further configures the processor to:

determine a degree of interaction; and

calculate a compensation value using the degree of interaction.

3. The advertisement display device of claim 2, wherein the degree of interaction is determined using the interactions with the first advertisement.

4. The advertisement display device of claim 3, wherein the degree of interaction is further determined using the duration of the interactions with the first advertisement.

5. The advertisement display device of claim 2, wherein the degree of interaction is further determined using the display of the second advertisement.

6. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein:

the first advertisement further comprises a plurality of engagement warnings and a first advertisement size; and

the engagement warning displayed in response to the interaction with the first advertisement is selected based on the first advertisement size.

7. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein the second advertisement is a mini-site, wherein the mini-site comprises one or more advertisements.

8. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein the second advertisement is a video advertisement.

9. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein:

the second advertisement comprises a share tool; and

wherein the advertisement display application further configures the processor to share the second advertisement in response to an interaction with the share tool.

10. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein the advertisement display device further configures the processor to:

determine targeting information;

receive a targeted advertisement based upon the targeting information; and

display the targeted advertisement in response to an interaction with the first advertisement.

11. The advertisement display device of claim 1, wherein the first advertisement and the same advertisement are received in the same file.

12. A method for interaction-based advertising, comprising:

receiving a webpage using an advertisement display device, where the webpage includes instructions specifying how a second advertisement will be displayed in response to interactions with a first advertisement;

receive a first advertisement using the advertisement display device, where the first advertisement contains an engagement warning;

receive a second advertisement using the advertisement display device;

determine when an interaction with the first advertisement has occurred;

display the engagement warning in response to the interaction with the first advertisement using the advertisement display device, where the engagement warning indicates that further interaction with the first advertisement will cause an action by the webpage;

hiding the engagement warning using the advertisement display device when further interaction with the first advertisement does not occur; and

displaying the second advertisement using the advertisement display device in response to further interaction with the first advertisement.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

determining a degree of interaction using the interaction with the first advertisement and the advertisement display device; and

calculating a compensation value using the degree of interaction and the advertisement display device.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein determining the degree of interaction using the advertisement display device is based on the further interactions with the first advertisement.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein herein determining the degree of interaction using the advertisement display device is based on the duration of the interactions with the first advertisement.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein determining the degree of interaction using the advertisement display device is based on the display of the second advertisement.

17. The method of claim 12, wherein:

the first advertisement further comprises a plurality of engagement warnings and a first advertisement size; and

displaying the engagement warning using the advertisement display device in response to the interaction with the first advertisement further comprises selecting an engagement warning using the first advertisement size.

18. The method of claim 12, wherein the second advertisement is a mini-site.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein the second advertisement is a video advertisement.

20. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

receiving a sharing request using the advertisement display device; and

sharing the second advertisement using the advertisement display device in response to the received sharing request.

21. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

determining targeting information using the advertisement display device;

receiving a targeted advertisement using the targeting information and the advertisement display device; and

displaying the targeted advertisement using the advertisement display device in response to an interaction with the first advertisement.

22. The method of claim 12, wherein the first advertisement and the same advertisement are received in the same file.
