USER FEEDBACK TO INDICATE TRANSITIONS BETWEEN OPEN AND CLOSED STATES
First Claim
1. A method for generating feedback to a user of a communication device to indicate a change in status of the device, the method comprising:
- providing a multi-screen communication device that may be selectively moved between an open position for positioning of primary and secondary screens of the communication device in a side-by-side relationship, and a closed position in which the primary and secondary screens are moved toward one another to place the primary and secondary screens in a back-to-back relationship;
determining, by at least one processor and at least one of a position sensor or accelerometer, that the device is being moved to the closed position or being moved to the open position;
in response to determining step, the at least one processor creating a signal as feedback to the user that the device has changed status from one position to the other; and
wherein the signal includes at least one of a audible or vibration signal generated by a feedback mechanism of the device in response to the signal created by the processor.

Abstract
A dual screen user device and methods for generating user feedback to indicate transitional states of the device are disclosed. Feedback is provided to a user of the device concerning transitional states or changes in status of the device, such as whether the device is open or closed, whether a peripheral device has been connected to or disconnected from the device and whether the device has been powered up or down. In a preferred embodiment, one or more vibrators are used to generate vibration and/or audible signals to the user to indicate to the user the particular change in status of the device as it occurs.

7. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer executable instructions, that when executed by at least one processor, perform a method of generating feedback to a user of a communication device regarding a change in state of the communication device, said method comprising:
-
instructions configured to receive a first input that corresponds to a triggering event indicative of a change in status of the communication device; instructions configured to determine the nature of the change in status of the device; instructions configured to respond to the first input that causes the communication device to generate a user feedback to the device based upon the type of triggering event detected, wherein the user feedback includes at least one of a vibration or audible signal that is perceptible by the user. - View Dependent Claims (8)

9. A multi-screen user device comprising:
-
a first display including a first display area; a second display including second display area; a first input user gesture area of the first display; a second user input gesture area of the second display, wherein the first and second user input gesture areas are configured to accept input from a user; a computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon that include; (i) a first set of instructions configured to determine a type of change of status of the communication device; (ii) a second set of instructions configured to determine, based on the first set of instructions, a desired user feedback signal to advise the user of the change of status of the device; (iii) a third set of instructions, responsive to the second set of instructions, that generates a user feedback including at least one of an audible or vibration feedback perceptible by the user. - View Dependent Claims (10)
