Abstract

Methods and mobile devices for performing operations responsive to user actions are disclosed. The method includes prompting a user of a mobile device to make a particular action that is detectable by the mobile device, and prompting the user to select a particular operation that the user desires to have effectuated when the particular action is subsequently carried out. In addition, an indicator of the particular action is stored on the mobile device in connection with an indicator of the particular operation to associate the particular action with the particular operation. And after registration, when the particular action is sensed with the mobile device, the particular operation is effectuated.

Claims

1. A communication device, the communication device comprising:

a sensing component to sense user actions;

a communication component to communicate data from the communication device to another communication device; and

an application to associate a particular user action that is sensed by the sensing component with a particular type of data, and in response to the sensing component sensing the particular user action, the application selects the particular type of data and initiates a transfer of the particular type of data to the other communication device.

2. The communication device of claim 1, wherein the sensing component includes an accelerometer and the user action that is sensed by the sensing component includes one or more of translational and rotational movement.

3. The communication device of claim 1, wherein the sensing component includes a touchscreen, and the user action that is sensed by the touchscreen includes a user contacting the touchscreen with a particular pattern.

4. The communication device of claim 1, wherein the sensing component includes a microphone and the user action that is sensed by the microphone includes sound from the user.

5. The communication device of claim 1, wherein the communication component includes one of a NFC communication component and a blue tooth communication component.

6. The communication device of claim 1, wherein the particular type of data includes credit card type data, banking data, data read from a datasheet, automobile-related data, and elevator-activation data.

7. A method for initiating an operation with a mobile device, the method comprising:

prompting a user of the mobile device to make a particular action that is detectable by the mobile device;

prompting the user to select a particular operation that the user desires to have effectuated when the particular action is subsequently carried out;

storing, in a memory of the mobile device, an indicator of the particular action in connection with an indicator of the particular operation to associate the particular action with the particular operation;

sensing, with the mobile device, the user making the particular action; and

effectuating, responsive to the particular action being sensed, the particular operation.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the sensing includes sensing the particular action with an accelerometer that is integrated with the mobile device, the particular action including one of moving the mobile device or tilting the mobile device.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein sensing includes sensing the particular action with a touchscreen of the mobile device, the particular action including a particular gesture that the user enters on the touchscreen.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein sensing includes sensing the particular action with a microphone of the mobile device, the particular action including the user speaking one or more particular words.

11. The method of claim 7, wherein the effectuating includes effectuating the particular operation using an NFC component of the mobile device.

12. The method of claim 7, wherein the particular operation includes one of selecting a particular credit card for a transaction;

changing a lock state on an automobile;

selecting a collection of data from an NFC-readable datasheet;

carrying out a financial transaction with an automated teller machine; and

operating an elevator.

13. A communication device, the communication device comprising:

means for prompting a user of the mobile device to make a particular action that is detectable by the mobile device;

means for prompting the user to select a particular operation that the user desires to have effectuated when the particular action is subsequently carried out;

means for storing, in a memory of the mobile device, an indicator of the particular action in connection with an indicator of the particular operation to associate the particular action with the particular operation;

means for sensing, with the mobile device, the user making the particular action; and

means for effectuating, responsive to the particular action being sensed, the particular operation.

14. The communication device of claim 13, wherein the means for sensing includes means for sensing the particular action with an accelerometer that is integrated with the mobile device, the particular action including one of moving the mobile device or tilting the mobile device.

15. The communication device of claim 13, wherein the means for sensing includes means for sensing the particular action with a touchscreen of the mobile device, the particular action including a particular gesture that the user enters on the touchscreen.

16. The communication device of claim 13, wherein the means for sensing includes means for sensing the particular action with a microphone of the mobile device, the particular action including the user speaking one or more particular words.

17. The communication device of claim 13, wherein the means for effectuating includes means for effectuating the particular operation using an NFC component of the mobile device.

18. The communication device of claim 13, wherein the particular operation includes one of selecting a particular credit card for a transaction;

changing a lock state on an automobile;

selecting a collection of data from an NFC-readable datasheet;

carrying out a financial transaction with an automated teller machine; and

operating an elevator.

19. A non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium, encoded with processor readable instructions to perform a method for processing source code, the method comprising:

prompting a user of the mobile device to make a particular action that is detectable by the mobile device;

prompting the user to select a particular operation that the user desires to have effectuated when the particular action is subsequently carried out;

storing, in a memory of the mobile device, an indicator of the particular action in connection with an indicator of the particular operation to associate the particular action with the particular operation;

sensing, with the mobile device, the user making the particular action; and

effectuating, responsive to the particular action being sensed, the particular operation.

20. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the sensing includes sensing the particular action with an accelerometer that is integrated with the mobile device, the particular action including one of moving the mobile device or tilting the mobile device.

21. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein sensing includes sensing the particular action with a touchscreen of the mobile device, the particular action including a particular gesture that the user enters on the touchscreen.

22. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein sensing includes sensing the particular action with a microphone of the mobile device, the particular action including the user speaking one or more particular words.

23. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the effectuating includes effectuating the particular operation using an NFC component of the mobile device.

24. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the particular operation includes one of selecting a particular credit card for a transaction;

changing a lock state on an automobile;

selecting a collection of data from an NFC-readable datasheet;

carrying out a financial transaction with an automated teller machine; and

operating an elevator.
