Abstract

The present disclosure includes a system and method for a service recommendation service [1001]. A method for a service recommendation service includes determining one or more queries that do not expose additional data items stored in a data source of a participant in a collaborative information system than are exposed by queries already implemented on the participant'"'"'s data source [1003]. Query services that are not authorized to involve the data source, but which use the determined one or more queries are identified [1009]. The identified query services are recommended to the participant [1011].

Claims

1. A method for a service recommendation service [1001], comprising:

determining one or more queries that do not expose additional data items stored in a data source of a participant in a collaborative information system than are exposed by queries already implemented on the participant'"'"'s data source [1003];

identifying query services that are not authorized to involve the data source, but which use the determined one or more queries [1009]; and

recommending the identified query services to the participant [1011].

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] used by authorized query services [226] of the collaborative information system [222] and implemented on a data source [240], some portion of the data source [240] being made available to the queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] used by authorized query services [226]; and

identifying query services [775] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] implemented on the data source.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

observing data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the one or more of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N]; and

determining, from the observed data items, additional queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items;

identifying additional query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the additional queries; and

recommending the identified additional query services [975] to the participant [238].

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

determining a group of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] used by authorized query services [226] of the collaborative information system [222] and implemented on a data source [240] via corresponding translated queries, some portion of the data source [240] being made available to the translated queries;

observing data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the translated queries;

determining, from the observed data items, more queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items;

identifying more query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the more queries; and

recommending the identified more query services [975] to the participant [238].

5. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

determining a group of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] used by authorized query services [226] of a collaborative information system [222] and implemented on a data source [240] via corresponding translated queries, some portion of the data source [240] being made available to the translated queries;

observing data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the translated queries;

determining, from the observed data items, more queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items;

identifying more query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the more queries; and

recommending the identified more query services [975] to the participant [238].

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining a group of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] used by authorized query services [226] of a collaborative information system [222] and implemented on a data source [240] via corresponding translated queries, some portion of the data source [240] being made available to the translated queries;

observing data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the translated queries;

determining, from the observed data items, more queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items;

identifying more query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the more queries; and

recommending the identified more query services [975] to the participant [238].

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

observing data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the one or more of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N]; and

determining, from the observed data items, additional queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items;

identifying additional query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the additional queries; and

recommending the identified additional query services [975] to the participant [238].

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

observing data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the one or more of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N]; and

determining, from the observed data items, additional queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items;

identifying additional query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the additional queries; and

recommending the identified additional query services [975] to the participant [238].

9. The method of claim, further comprising:

receiving an inquiry from a participant [238] having the data source [240] regarding a query service [226] of interest that is not authorized to involve the data source [240]; and

indicating to the participant [238] having the data source [240] additional queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] that are used by the query service [226] of interest other than the queries already implemented on the participant'"'"'s data source [240].

10. The method of claim 9, wherein identifying query services includes comparing the additional queries to queries in a service taxonomy model [348].

11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium [107] having computer-readable instructions stored thereon that, if executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

determine one or more queries that do not expose additional data items stored in a data source of a participant in a collaborative information system than are exposed by queries already implemented on the participant'"'"'s data source [1003];

identify query services that are not authorized to involve the data source, but which use the determined one or more queries [1009]; and

recommend the identified query services to the participant [1011].

12. A non-transitory computer-readable medium [107] of claim 11, further including computer-readable instructions stored thereon that are executed by the processor to:

determine queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] implemented on a data source [240] that are used by authorized query services [226] of the collaborative information system [222]; and

identify additional query services [775] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which could be authorized by using the additional queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N];

recommend the identified additional query services to the participant.

13. A system for a service recommendation service, comprising:

plurality of collaborative information participants [238] interconnected via a communication network [239], each participant having zero or more data sources [240];

a computing platform [224] programmed with query services [226], each query service defining one or more queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] operable on authorized portions of participant data sources [240], the computing platform being programmed with a service recommendation service to;

determine one or more queries that do not expose additional data items stored in a data source of a participant in a collaborative information system than are exposed by queries already implemented on the participant'"'"'s data source [1003];

identify query services that are not authorized to involve the data source, but which use the determined one or more queries [1009]; and

recommend the identified query services to the participant [1011].

14. The system of claim 13, further including:

control circuitry to observe data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the one or more of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N]; and

logic to determine, from the observed data items, additional queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items, and identify additional query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the additional queries; and

apparatus to recommend the identified additional query services [975] to the participant [238].

15. The system of claim 13, further including:

control circuitry to determine a group of queries [227-1, 227-2, . . . , 227-N] used by authorized query services [226] of the collaborative information system [222] and implemented on a data source [240] via corresponding translated queries, some portion of the data source [240] being made available to the translated queries, and observe data items stored in the data source [240] from statements of the translated queries;

logic to determine, from the observed data items, more queries that are not implemented on the data source [240], which search the observed data items, and identify more query services [975] that are not authorized to involve the data source [240], but which use the more queries; and

apparatus to recommend the identified more query services [975] to the participant [238].
