Abstract

A computer-implemented method is disclosed that includes receiving on a mobile device a search query associated with a geographic location, providing one or more search results in response to the search query, the search results each being associated with a geographic location, and presenting on a graphical display of the computing device icons corresponding to each search result and also corresponding to a key on the computing device.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

displaying a first view of a geographic area on a display of a mobile computing device;

displaying a first menu with the first view of the geographic area, wherein the first menu includes a plurality of user-selectable options;

receiving a selection of a one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu; and

displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device and in response to receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu, a second view of the geographic area, the first view and the second view showing the geographic area in different manners.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first menu is displayed superimposed over the first view of the geographic area.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first menu is displayed with the first view of the geographic area in response to a user of the mobile computing device selecting a selectable control displayed on the display of the mobile computing device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu has a visible label shown on the display of the mobile computing device that matches a visible label on an input key of the mobile computing device.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu comprises receiving a user selection of the input key with the visible label that matches the visible label of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a second menu with the second view of the geographic area in response to a user of the mobile computing device selecting a selectable control displayed on the display of the mobile computing device, wherein the second menu includes a plurality of user-selectable options;

receiving a selection of a one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu; and

displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device and in response to receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu, the first view of the geographic area.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second menu is displayed superimposed over the second view of the geographic area.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein each of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu has a visible label shown on the display of the mobile computing device that matches a visible label on an input key of the mobile computing device.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu comprises receiving a user selection of the input key with the visible label that matches the visible label of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein:

the first view comprises a map view of the geographic area,

the second view comprises an overhead image view of the geographic area,

the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu causes the mobile computing device to switch from displaying the map view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device to displaying the overhead image view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device, and

the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu causes the mobile computing device to switch from displaying the overhead image view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device to displaying the map view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the overhead image view is a satellite view.

12. A mobile computing device comprising:

a wireless communication interface;

a display screen; and

one or more processors connected to memory that stores instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising;

displaying a first view of a geographic area on a display of the mobile computing device;

displaying a first menu with the first view of the geographic area, wherein the first menu includes a plurality of user-selectable options;

receiving a selection of a one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu; and

displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device and in response to receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu, a second view of the geographic area, the first view and the second view showing the geographic area in different manners.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein each of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu has a visible label shown on the display of the mobile computing device that matches a visible label on an input key of the mobile computing device.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the operation of receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu comprises the operation of receiving a user selection of the input key with the visible label that matches the visible label of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu.

15. The device of claim 12, wherein the operations further comprise:

displaying a second menu with the second view of the geographic area in response to a user of the mobile computing device selecting a selectable control displayed on the display of the mobile computing device, wherein the second menu includes a plurality of user-selectable options;

receiving a selection of a one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu; and

displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device and in response to receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu, the first view of the geographic area.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein:

the first view comprises a map view of the geographic area,

the second view comprises an overhead image view of the geographic area,

the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu causes the mobile computing device to switch from displaying the map view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device to displaying the overhead image view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device, and

the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu causes the mobile computing device to switch from displaying the overhead image view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device to displaying the map view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device.

17. A computer readable storage device encoded with a computer program product, the computer program product including instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising:

displaying a first view of a geographic area on a display of a mobile computing device;

displaying a first menu with the first view of the geographic area, wherein the first menu includes a plurality of user-selectable options;

receiving a selection of a one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu; and

displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device and in response to receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu, a second view of the geographic area, the first view and the second view showing the geographic area in different manners.

18. The computer readable storage device of claim 17, wherein each of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu has a visible label shown on the display of the mobile computing device that matches a visible label on an input key of the mobile computing device, and wherein the operation of receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu comprises the operation of receiving a user selection of the input key with the visible label that matches the visible label of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu.

19. The computer readable storage device of claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise:

displaying a second menu with the second view of the geographic area in response to a user of the mobile computing device selecting a selectable control displayed on the display of the mobile computing device, wherein the second menu includes a plurality of user-selectable options;

receiving a selection of a one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu; and

displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device and in response to receiving the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu, the first view of the geographic area.

20. The computer readable storage device of claim 20, wherein:

the first view comprises a map view of the geographic area,

the second view comprises an overhead image view of the geographic area,

the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the first menu causes the mobile computing device to switch from displaying the map view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device to displaying the overhead image view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device, and

the selection of the one of the plurality of user-selectable options included in the second menu causes the mobile computing device to switch from displaying the overhead image view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device to displaying the map view of the geographic area on the display of the mobile computing device.
