Abstract

Disclosed is a subjective user interface that allows a user to define a worknet from a set of data objects of a business enterprise. The user may instantiate channels which are subsets of the worknet. In embodiments, predefined channels may be created and then installed in the user'"'"'s subjective user interface, which the user may choose as a new channel. Activity spaces may be defined within a channel comprising members of the channel. The data objects that comprise a worknet, or a channel, or an activity space may comprise people as well as non-person (inanimate) entities.

Claims

1. A method for networking among data objects of a business enterprise comprising operating a computer system to perform steps of:

displaying a global view of the data objects of the business enterprise;

defining a worknet of a user including receiving input indicative of selections of one or more of the data objects which comprise members of the worknet;

instantiating a new channel including selecting the new channel from a display of a plurality of predefined channel definitions, wherein each predefined channel definition is defined by an entity other than the user, wherein the new channel comprises a subset of the members of the worknet as members of the new channel;

displaying a first feed viewer associated with the members of the worknet, the first feed viewer presenting communications with the members of the worknet;

displaying a second feed viewer associated with members of the new channel, the second feed viewer presenting communications with the members of the new channel; and

defining an activity space that is associated with the new channel, the activity space comprising a subset of the members of the new channel and one or more collaboration tools to facilitate activities among members of the activity space.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the new channel becomes a data object of the business enterprise and is displayed in the global view of the data objects of the business enterprise.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein instantiating a new channel further includes manually defining the new channel as an alternative to selecting the new channel from among the plurality of predefined channel definitions.

The method of claim 1 wherein instantiating a new channel further includes applying one or more filtering operations to identify a resulting set of members of the worknet as an alternative to selecting the new channel from among the plurality of predefined channel definitions, wherein the resulting set of members of the worknet constitutes the new channel.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein instantiating a new channel further includes sending a notification to the members of the new channel.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein the notification is automatically generated and sent to the members of the new channel.

7. The method of claim 5 wherein sending a notification includes receiving input from the user and incorporating the user'"'"'s input in the notification.

8. The method of claim 5 wherein sending a notification includes receiving input from the user to omit sending the notification to one or more members of the new channel.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the data objects are people and non-person entities.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the computer system is a mobile device.

11. A programmed computer system configured to provide networking among data objects of a business enterprise, the programmed computer system comprising:

a processing component;

a display component;

a memory component having stored thereon computer executable program code,

wherein when the processing component executes the computer executable program code, the processing component;

displays a global view of the data objects of the business enterprise on the display component;

defines a worknet by receiving input from a user indicative of selections of one or more of the data objects as members of the worknet;

instantiates a new channel by displaying on the display component a plurality of predefined channel definitions and receiving a selection of one of the predefined channel definitions, wherein each predefined channel definition is defined by an entity other than the user, wherein the new channel comprises a subset of the members of the worknet as members of the new channel;

displays on the display component a first feed viewer associated with the members of the worknet, the first feed viewer presenting communications with the members of the worknet;

displays on the display component a second feed viewer associated with members of the new channel, the second feed viewer presenting communications with the members of the new channel; and

receives input from the user to define an activity space that is associated with the new channel, the activity space comprising a subset of the members of the new channel.

12. The computer system of claim 11 wherein the new channel becomes a data object of the business enterprise and is displayed in the global view of the data objects of the business enterprise.

13. The computer system of claim 11 wherein the processing component instantiates a new channel by further receiving from the user to manually define the new channel as an alternative to receiving a selection of one of the predefined channel definitions.

14. The computer system of claim 11 the processing component instantiates a new channel by further receiving input from the user to apply one or more filtering operations to identify a resulting set of members of the worknet as an alternative to receiving a selection of one of the predefined channel definitions, wherein the resulting set of members of the worknet constitutes the new channel.

15. The computer system of claim 11 wherein the processing component instantiates a new channel by further sending a notification to the members of the new channel.

16. The computer system of claim 15 wherein sending a notification includes receiving input from the user to omit sending the notification to one or more members of the new channel.

17. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon computer executable program code, the computer executable program code configured to cause a computer system to perform steps of:

displaying a global view of the data objects of the business enterprise;

defining a worknet of a user including receiving input indicative of selections of one or more of the data objects which comprise members of the worknet;

instantiating a new channel including selecting the new channel from a display of a plurality of predefined channel definitions, wherein each predefined channel definition is defined by an entity other than the user, wherein the new channel comprises a subset of the members of the worknet as members of the new channel;

displaying a first feed viewer associated with the members of the worknet, the first feed viewer presenting communications with the members of the worknet;

displaying a second feed viewer associated with members of the new channel, the second feed viewer presenting communications with the members of the new channel; and

defining an activity space that is associated with the new channel, the activity space comprising a subset of the members of the new channel and one or more collaboration tools to facilitate activities among members of the activity space.

18. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein instantiating a new channel further includes manually defining the new channel as an alternative to selecting the new channel from among the plurality of predefined channel definitions.

The computer program product of claim 17wherein instantiating a new channel further includes applying one or more filtering operations to identify a resulting set of members of the worknet as an alternative to selecting the new channel from among the plurality of predefined channel definitions, wherein the resulting set of members of the worknet constitutes the new channel.

20. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein instantiating a new channel further includes sending a notification to the members of the new channel including receiving input from the user to omit sending the notification to one or more members of the new channel.
