Abstract

A method for receiving a multimedia service is provided. The method includes receiving service specific information for at least one multimedia service provided from different networks, selecting one service based on the service specific information, and receiving the selected service. The service specific information includes one of a first service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a plurality of logical channels, and a second service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a single logical channel. Each of the first and second service map tables includes asset-related information.

Claims

1. A method for receiving a multimedia service, the method comprising:

receiving service specific information for at least one multimedia service provided from different networks;

selecting one service based on the service specific information; and

receiving the selected service,

wherein the service specific information includes one of a first service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a plurality of logical channels, and a second service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a single logical channel, and

wherein each of the first and second service map tables includes asset-related information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein if the service specific information includes the first service map table, the first service map table includes location reference information of a Package Packing Table (PPT) that stores information about a program item which is transmitted over each of the plurality of logical channels.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first service map table includes location reference information and version information for a Package Guide Table (PGT) including guide information for all programs.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the first service map table includes at least one of:

a SMT_prefix_count field indicating the number of following SMT_prefixes;

a package_path_number field indicating a package path number for identifying a logical channel in a certain broadcast channel; and

a simple_location_type field indicating a type of location reference information for a PPT corresponding to a presently delivered package.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein if the service specific information includes the second service map table, the second service map table includes a SMT_update_version field indicating update version information of the second service map table.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and second service map tables are identified by a table identifier ‘

table_id’

.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the PPT includes at least one of:

a parental_guidance_flag field indicating whether to play content restored from a package;

a recording_flag field for allowing a receiver to store the package in internal storage media of the receiver, if a value of the recording_flag field is ‘

a random_access_flag field for allowing a viewer to make a random access to the package, if a value of the random_access_flag field is ‘

1’

;

a fast_forward_play_flag field for allowing a viewer to perform fast forward play on the package, if a value of the fast_forward_play_flag field is ‘

8. A method for transmitting a multimedia service, the method comprising:

transmitting service specific information for at least one multimedia service to be provided from different networks; and

transmitting a service requested by a receiver, to the receiver based on the service specific information,

wherein the service specific information includes one of a first service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a plurality of logical channels, and a second service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a single logical channel, and

wherein each of the first and second service map tables includes asset-related information.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein if the service specific information includes the first service map table, the first service map table includes location reference information of a Package Packing Table (PPT) that stores information about a program item which is transmitted over each of the plurality of logical channels.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the first service map table includes location reference information and version information for a Package Guide Table (PGT) including guide information for all programs.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the first service map table includes at least one of:

a SMT_prefix_count field indicating the number of following SMT_prefixes;

a package_path_number field indicating a package path number for identifying a logical channel in a certain broadcast channel; and

a simple_location_type field indicating a type of location reference information for a PPT corresponding to a presently delivered package.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein if the service specific information includes the second service map table, the second service map table includes a SMT_update_version field indicating update version information of the second service map table.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the first and second service map tables are identified by a table identifier ‘

14. The method of claim 9, wherein the PPT includes at least one of:

15. An apparatus for receiving a multimedia service, the apparatus comprising:

a receiver for receiving service specific information for at least one multimedia service provided from different networks; and

a controller for selecting one service based on the service specific information,

wherein the receiver receives a service selected by the controller,

wherein the service specific information includes one of a first service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a plurality of logical channels, and a second service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a single logical channel, and

wherein each of the first and second service map tables includes asset-related information.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein if the service specific information includes the first service map table, the first service map table includes location reference information of a Package Packing Table (PPT) that stores information about a program item which is transmitted over each of the plurality of logical channels.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the first service map table includes location reference information and version information for a Package Guide Table (PGT) including guide information for all programs.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the first service map table includes at least one of:

a SMT_prefix_count field indicating the number of following SMT_prefixes;

a package_path_number field indicating a package path number for identifying a logical channel in a certain broadcast channel; and

a simple_location_type field indicating a type of location reference information for a PPT corresponding to a presently delivered package.

19. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein if the service specific information includes the second service map table, the second service map table includes a SMT_update_version field indicating update version information of the second service map table.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the first and second service map tables are identified by a table identifier ‘

21. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the PPT includes at least one of:

a parental_guidance_flag field indicating whether to play content restored from a package;

22. An apparatus for transmitting a multimedia service, the apparatus comprising:

a transmitter for transmitting service specific information for at least one multimedia service to be provided from different networks; and

a controller for selecting a service requested by a receiver based on the service specific information,

wherein the transmitter transmits a service selected by the controller, to the receiver based on the service specific information,

wherein the service specific information includes one of a first service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a plurality of logical channels, and a second service map table including information about at least one service which is transmitted over a single logical channel, and

wherein each of the first and second service map tables includes asset-related information.

The apparatus of claim 22, wherein if the service specific information includes the first service map table, the first service map table includes location reference information of a Package Packing Table (PPT) that stores information about a program item which is transmitted over each of the plurality of logical channels.

24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the first service map table includes location reference information and version information for a Package Guide Table (PGT) including guide information for all programs.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the first service map table includes at least one of:

a SMT_prefix_count field indicating the number of following SMT_prefixes;

a package_path_number field indicating a package path number for identifying a logical channel in a certain broadcast channel; and

a simple_location_type field indicating a type of location reference information for a PPT corresponding to a presently delivered package.

26. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein if the service specific information includes the second service map table, the second service map table includes a SMT_update_version field indicating update version information of the second service map table.

27. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the first and second service map tables are identified by a table identifier ‘

receiving a control message; and

decoding the control message,

wherein the control message includes at least one table,

wherein the at least one table includes a table for at least one MPEG Media Transport (MMT) Package Table (MPT) corresponding to a package, and

wherein the table for the MPT includes an asset list belonging to the package.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the at least one table includes at least one of an Information on Tables and Notices (ITN) table, a table for MMT Composition Information (MCI), a table for Clock Reference Descriptors (CRD), a table for security information, and a table for Device Capability Information Table (DCIT).

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the ITN table includes control information for other tables except for the ITN table.

32. An apparatus for receiving a multimedia service, the apparatus comprising:

a receiver for receiving a control message; and

a decoder for decoding the control message,

wherein the control message includes at least one table,

wherein the at least one table includes a table for at least one MPEG Media Transport (MMT) Package Table (MPT) corresponding to a package, and

wherein the table for the MPT includes an asset list belonging to the package.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein the at least one table includes at least one of an Information on Tables and Notices (ITN) table, a table for MMT Composition Information (MCI), a table for Clock Reference Descriptors (CRD), a table for security information, and a table for Device Capability Information Table (DCIT).

34. The apparatus of claim 33, wherein the ITN table includes control information for other tables except for the ITN table.

35. A method for transmitting a multimedia service, the method comprising:

generating a control message; and

transmitting the generated control message,

wherein the control message includes at least one table,

wherein the at least one table includes a table for at least one MPEG Media Transport (MMT) Package Table (MPT) corresponding to a package, and

wherein the table for an MPT includes an asset list belonging to the package.

36. The method of claim 35, wherein the at least one table includes at least one of an Information on Tables and Notices (ITN) table, a table for MMT Composition Information (MCI), a table for Clock Reference Descriptors (CRD), a table for security information, and a table for Device Capability Information Table (DCIT).

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the ITN table includes control information for other tables except for the ITN table.

38. An apparatus for transmitting a multimedia service, the apparatus comprising:

a controller for generating a control message; and

a transmitter for transmitting the generated control message,

wherein the control message includes at least one table,

wherein the at least one table includes a table for at least one MPEG Media Transport (MMT) Package Table (MPT) corresponding to a package, and

wherein the table for the MPT includes an asset list belonging to the package.

39. The apparatus of claim 38, wherein the at least one table includes at least one of an Information on Tables and Notices (ITN) table, a table for MMT Composition Information (MCI), a table for Clock Reference Descriptors (CRD), a table for security information, and a table for Device Capability Information Table (DCIT).

40. The apparatus of claim 39, wherein the ITN table includes control information for other tables except for the ITN table.
