Abstract

Systems and methods for modifying a social timeline are described. A method for modifying a social timeline includes generating data to display a timeline graphic. The time graphic includes a chronology bar that is associated with at least two dates. The method further includes associating image data with the at least two dates to display images along the timeline graphic. The images describe a life story of an account holder. The method includes generating data to allow the account holder to post a comment to the life story along the timeline graphic.

7. A method comprising:

receiving a request to post a photo to a user account of a first user, the user account being for a social network, the photo including an image of a second user, the second user having a user account within the social network;

receiving an identification from an account holder of the second user, the account holder having a user account within the social network and having permission to view the photo posted by the first user;

enabling posting of the photo to the user account of the second user when the identification is received from the account holder; and

associating the photo to a timeline of the user account of the second user, such that the photo is displayed in an ordered arrangement by a date identifier of the timeline,

wherein the method is executed by a processor.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the photo is an image of an event of a life story of the second user.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein associating the photo to the timeline is performed based on a date associated with the photo.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the date associated with the photo includes a date of occurrence of an event depicted in the photo.

11. The method of claim 7, wherein the account holder is either the first user or another user that has a user account within the social network and is a social network friend of the second user.

12. The method of claim 7, further comprising determining whether the account holder has permission to post the photo to the user account of the second user, such determining being based on a review of a profile of the second user.

13. The method of claim 7, further comprising determining whether the account holder has permission to post the photo to the user account of the second user, such determining being based on whether a profile of the second user indicates that any user of the social network is permitted to post to the user account of the second user.

14. The method of claim 7, further comprising determining whether the account holder has permission to post the photo to the user account of the second user, such determining being based on an approval from the second user of the photo for posting to the user account of the second user.

15. The method of claim 7, further comprising determining whether the account holder has permission to post the photo to the user account of the second user, such determining being based on whether the account holder has invited the second user to join the social network or whether the second user has invited the account holder to join the social network.

16. The method of claim 7, wherein the user account of the second user is accessed by the account holder when a name of the second user or an image of the second user is selected by the account holder, the name or image of the second user represented within social network connections of the account holder.

17. A method comprising:

receiving a request from an account holder to post a photo to an account of a target user of a social network, the account holder having an account within the social network;

determining permissions for the account holder, the permissions identifying whether the request is to be allowed; and

if the request is to be allowed, associating the photo to a position along a timeline for the target user,

wherein the method is executed by a processor.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein determining the permissions comprises determining whether a profile of the target user indicates that any user of the social network is permitted to post to the account of the target user.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein determining the permissions comprises determining whether the account holder has permission to access the account of the target user, such determining being based on an approval from the target user of the photo for posting to the account of the target user.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein determining the permissions comprises determining whether the target user has invited the account holder to join the social network or whether the account holder has invited the target user to join the social network.

21. The method of claim 17, wherein the photo is an image of an event of a life story of the target user.

22. The method of claim 17, wherein associating the photo to the position along the timeline is performed based on a date associated with the photo.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the date associated with the photo includes a date of occurrence of an event depicted in the photo.

24. The method of claim 17, wherein associating the photo to the position along the timeline comprises providing the photo for display along a timeline bar within the account of the target user.

25. A method for generating a life story of an account holder, the method comprising:

receiving image data from one or more users for posting to a user account of the account holder, the user account within a social network;

receiving user identification data identifying the user account of the account holder;

associating the image data with the user identification data; and

sending the image data and the associated user identification data via a network to a client device for display on a web page, the web page displayed on the client device, wherein the method is executed by a processor.

26. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

generating a text input field for receiving a response from the account holder, the response replying to a question posed by the one or more users, one or more portions of the image data attached to the question; and

generating publish button data to allow the account holder to publish the response.

27. The method of claim 25, wherein the user identification data includes user IDs of the one or more users, the user IDs being a part of profiles of the one or more users, the profiles maintained within the social network.

28. The method of claim 25, wherein sending the image data and the associated user identification data comprises sending the image data and the associated user identification data for display along a timeline bar, the timeline bar including dates associated with events of the life story of the account holder.
