Abstract

In one embodiment, computer-readable non-transitory storage media receive one or more signals based on motion of an object, a device, or both. The received signals are compared to a motion profile which defines unintended motion of the object, the device, or both, and this comparison determines whether any of the signals represent unintended motion of the stylus or device. The received signals are then processed to correct for the unintended motion defined by the motion profile.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving one or more signals related to motion of an object, a device, or both;

comparing the received signals to a motion profile embodied in one or more first computer-readable non-transitory storage media, the motion profile defining unintended motion of the object, the device, or both;

determining whether the received signals resulted from any unintended motion of the object or the device based on the motion profile; and

processing the received signals to correct for the unintended motion defined by the motion profile.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the object comprises a stylus comprising one or more electrodes and one or more second computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic for transmitting signals wirelessly to the device through a touch sensor of the device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the object comprises one or more fingers of a user.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the received signals are produced by an accelerometer, gyroscope, global positioning system, magnetometer, or touch-sensitive element.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the motion profile comprises acceleration of the object or the device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the motion profile comprises one or more durations of motion of the object or the device.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the motion profile comprises one or more temporal frequencies.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the motion profile comprises a pre-determined motion or sequence of motions.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the motion profile is defined by one or more of:

a user of the object or the device;

characteristics appearing in or common to motion previously defined as unintended;

differences between motion-related tasks performed by the user and motion-related tasks requested of the user during a testing period;

or

a definition pre-set prior to the user'"'"'s initial use of the object or the device.

10. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic operable when executed to:

receive one or more signals related to motion of an object, a device, or both;

compare the received signals to a motion profile, the motion profile defining unintended motion of the object, the device, or both;

determine whether the received signals resulted from any unintended motion of the object or the device based on the motion profile; and

process the received signals to correct for the unintended motion defined by the motion profile.

11. The media of claim 10, wherein the object comprises a stylus comprising one or more electrodes and one or more second computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic for transmitting signals wirelessly to the device through a touch sensor of the device.

12. The media of claim 10, wherein the object comprises one or more fingers of a user.

13. The media of claim 10, wherein the received signals are produced by an accelerometer, gyroscope, global positioning system, magnetometer, or touch-sensitive element.

14. The media of claim 10, wherein the motion profile comprises acceleration of the object or the device.

15. The media of claim 10, wherein the motion profile comprises one or more durations of the motion of the object or the device.

16. The media of claim 10, wherein the motion profile comprises one or more temporal frequencies.

17. The media of claim 10, wherein the motion profile comprises a pre-determined motion or sequence of motions.

18. The media of claim 10, wherein the motion profile is defined by one or more of:

a user of the object or the device;

characteristics appearing in or common to motion previously defined as unintended;

differences in motion-related tasks performed by the user and motion-related tasks requested of the user during a testing period;

or

a definition pre-set prior to the user'"'"'s initial use of the object or the device.

19. An apparatus comprising:

one or more first computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic operable to;

receive one or more signals related to motion of an object, a device, or both;

compare the received signals to a motion profile embodied in the media, the motion profile defining unintended motion of the object, the device, or both;

determine whether the received signals resulted from any unintended motion of the object or device based on the motion profile; and

process the received signals to correct for the unintended motion defined by the motion profile.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the object comprises a stylus comprising one or more electrodes and one or more second computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic for transmitting signals wirelessly to the device through a touch sensor of the device.
