Abstract

A server receives a sound file corresponding to a sound corresponding to a media file. The server compares the sound file to a library of media file sound recordings to identify a media file and a matching position in the media file of a final sound in the sound file. The server determines, from a data structure of media abbreviations, a media abbreviation that corresponds to a final sound data present in the sound file. The server transmits the media abbreviation to the addressable device.

Claims

1. A method for delivering a media abbreviation, the method comprising:

a computer receiving a sound file corresponding to a sound of a media file from an addressable device;

the computer comparing the sound file to a library of media file sound recordings to identify a media file and a matching position in the media file of a final sound in the sound file;

the computer determining, from a data structure of media abbreviations, the media abbreviation that corresponds to a final sound data present in the sound file; and

the computer transmitting the media abbreviation to the addressable device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the media abbreviation that corresponds to the final sound data abbreviates a plot of the media file that concludes prior to the final sound.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the media abbreviation is a synopsis of a plot that concludes after the final sound.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the media abbreviation is a textual description, in summary form, of content of the media file including at least the matching position, but not including a conclusion of the media file.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein determining further comprises:

receiving a reference sound file indexed to passages of the media abbreviation;

storing the reference sound file in the library of media file sound recordings; and

forming the media abbreviation based on at least two passages.

6. A method for delivering media content, the method comprising:

recording ambient sound to form a sound file;

a computer sending the sound file corresponding to a sound recording of a media file playback, together with a request for a copy of the media file from which the sound recording is made responsive to recording ambient sound;

receiving a command to request the media abbreviation, the command comprising a touch input;

responsive to receiving the command to request the media abbreviation, the computer receiving the copy of the media file wherein the copy of the media file comprises a media abbreviation, wherein the media abbreviation is a portion of the media file that follows after a media file portion that corresponds to the sound recording; and

the computer playing back the copy of media file at a resume point, wherein the resume point is data corresponding to data that matches the sound file.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

authorizing payment substantially contemporaneous with sending the sound file; and

wherein receiving the copy of the media file is in response to authorizing payment.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein receiving the copy of the media file comprises receiving the entire copy of the media file, and the entire copy of the media file comprises receiving an indicator of the resume point.

10. A computer program product for delivering a media abbreviation, the computer program product comprising:

a computer usable tangible storage device having computer usable program code embodied therewith, the computer program product comprising;

computer usable program code configured to receive a sound file corresponding to a sound recording of a media file playback from an addressable device;

computer usable program code configured to compare the sound file to a library of media file sound recordings to identify a media file and a matching position in the media file of a final sound in the sound file;

computer usable program code configured to determine, from a data structure of media abbreviations, a media abbreviation that corresponds to a final sound data present in the sound file; and

computer usable program code configured to transmit the media abbreviation to the addressable device.

11. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the media abbreviation that corresponds to the final sound data, abbreviates a plot of the media file that concludes prior to the final sound.

12. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the media abbreviation is a synopsis of a plot that concludes after the final sound.

13. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the media abbreviation is a textual description, in summary form, of content of the media file including at least the matching position, but not including a conclusion of the media file.

14. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein determining further comprises:

computer usable program code configured to receive a reference sound file indexed to passages of the media abbreviation;

computer usable program code configured to store the reference sound file in the library of media file sound recordings; and

computer usable program code configured to form the media abbreviation based on at least two passages.

15. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the media abbreviation describes content of the media file after a time of receiving the sound file corresponding to the sound recording of the media file playback from an addressable device.

16. A computer program product for delivering media content, the computer program product comprising:

a computer usable tangible storage device having computer usable program code embodied therewith, the computer program product comprising;

computer usable program code to record ambient sound to form a sound file;

computer usable program code to send a sound file corresponding to a sound recording of a media file playback, together with a request for a copy of the media file from which the sound recording is made responsive to recording ambient sound;

computer usable program code to receive a command to request the media abbreviation, the command comprising a touch input;

computer usable program code to receive the copy of the media file, wherein the copy of the media file comprises a media abbreviation, wherein the media abbreviation is a portion of the media file that follows after a media file portion that corresponds to the sound recording; and

computer usable program code to play back the copy of the media file at a resume point, wherein the resume point is data corresponding to data that matches the sound file.

17. The computer program product of claim 16, further comprising:

computer usable program code to authorize payment substantially contemporaneous with sending the sound file; and

wherein computer usable program code to receive the copy of the media file is operable in response to authorizing payment.

19. The computer program product of claim 16, wherein receiving the copy of the media file comprises receiving the entire copy of the media file, and the entire copy of the media file comprises receiving an indicator of the resume point.

20. A data processing system for delivering a media abbreviation, the data processing system comprising:

a hardware processor, a computer readable memory and a computer readable tangible storage device;

wherein the hardware processor executes the computer usable program code to receive a sound file corresponding to a sound recording of a media file playback from an addressable device;

compare the sound file to a library of media file sound recordings to identify a media file and a matching position in the media file of a final sound in the sound file;

determine, from a data structure of media abbreviations, a media abbreviation that corresponds to a final sound data present in the sound file; and

transmit the media abbreviation to the addressable device.

21. The data processing system of claim 20, wherein the media abbreviation that corresponds to the final sound data, abbreviates a plot of the media file that concludes prior to the final sound.

22. The data processing system of claim 20, wherein the media abbreviation is a synopsis of a plot that concludes after the final sound.

23. The data processing system of claim 20, wherein the media abbreviation is a textual description, in summary form, of content of the media file including at least the matching position, but not including a conclusion of the media file.

24. The data processing system of claim 20, wherein in determining the hardware processor executes the computer usable program code to receive a reference sound file indexed to passages of the media abbreviation;

store the reference sound file in the library of media file sound recordings; and

form the media abbreviation based on at least two passages.
