Abstract

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to formatting system monitoring information. In one embodiment, a processor formats information related to monitoring a system. The formatted information may be related to components in a system. In one embodiment, the processor formats received information related to the system. The processor may output the formatted information.

Claims

1. A computing system 100 for formatting system monitoring information, comprising:

a storage 106 configured to store;

relationship information 110 indicative of relationships between components in a system; and

location information 112 indicative of a plurality of locations of monitoring information, wherein each location is related to a component in the system; and

a processor 104 configured to;

receive the relationship information 110 and the location information 112;

format the received relationship information 110 and the location information 112; and

output the formatted information.

2. The computing system of claim 1, wherein the processor 104 is further configured to:

receive the relationship information 110 and the location information 112 via a user interface; and

store the received information in the storage 106.

3. The computing system of claim 1, wherein formatting the received relationship information 110 and the location information 112 comprises formatting the received relationship information 110 and the location information 112 in Extensible Markup Language.

4. The computing system of claim 1, wherein the processor 104 is further configured to retrieve monitoring information from each of the locations indicated by the location information 112 in the outputted information.

5. The computing system of claim 1, wherein the relationship information 110 comprises information indicative of the dependency between components of the system.

6. A method for formatting system monitoring information, comprising:

receiving, by a processor 104, information indicative of relationships 110 between components in a system;

receiving, by the processor 104, information indicative of a plurality of locations of monitoring information 112, wherein each location is related to a component of the system;

formatting, by the processor 104, the received information indicative of relationships 110 and the received information indicative of a plurality of locations 112; and

outputting, by the processor 104, the formatted information.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the information indicative of relationships 110 and information indicative of a plurality of locations 112 is received via a user interface.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising retrieving, by the processor 104, monitoring information from each of the locations stored in the outputted formatted information.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the system comprises a data center.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein formatting the received information comprises formatting the received information based on Extensible Markup Language.

11. A machine-readable storage medium encoded with instructions executable by processor for formatting system monitoring information, the machine-readable medium 108 comprising instructions to:

receive information related to associations between components in a system 110;

receive information related to a plurality of sources of monitoring information 112, wherein each source of monitoring information indicates a source of information applicable to one of the components in the system;

organize the received information related to associations 110 and the received information related to a plurality of sources 112; and

output the organized information.

12. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11 further comprising instructions to display a user interface for receiving the information related to associations 110 and the information related to a plurality of sources 112.

13. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein organizing the received information comprises organizing the received information in Extensible Markup Language.

14. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein information related to associations between components in a system 110 comprises information indicative of a dependency between components of the system.

15. The machine-readable storage medium claim 11, further comprising instructions to obtain monitoring information from each of the sources indicated by the outputted organized information.
