Abstract

A method and apparatus are provided for displaying data on a touch sensitive display (2) a detector (4) and CPU (6) detect contact with the touch sensitive display (2) and control the display of data. The system is responsive to a predetermined swiping duration of a finger on the display or to a manual selectable switch to change the display of data between a scrolling of data and a paging of data.

Claims

1. A touch sensitive display system for displaying data which is scrollable in response to swiping of the finger on the touch sensitive display, wherein the system is also controllable to page through the data in response to a swipe of a finger on the touch sensitive display, wherein the system is responsive to a swipe of a first length to scroll through data and to a swipe of a second length to page through the data and wherein the first length is longer than the second length.

2. A touch sensitive display system according to claim 1 in which the swipe of a first length has a first duration and the swipe of a second length as a second duration.

3. A touch sensitive display system according to claim 1 in which the system is responsive to contact of a finger in an edge zone of the display to continue paging or scrolling through data after a swipe.

4. A touch sensitive display according to claim 3 in which the system is controllable when paging to page to a next adjacent portion of the data.

5. A touch sensitive display according to claim 1 in which the system is controllable when paging to page to a next page break in the data.

6. A computerized method of displaying data, comprising:

displaying data on a touch sensitive display;

providing a signal representing a finger swipe on the touch sensitive display;

scrolling through the data, responsive to the signal indicating that the swipe is of a first length; and

paging through the data, responsive to the signal indicating that the swipe is of a second length.

7. A computerized method of displaying data according to claim 6, further comprising continuing either the paging or the scrolling through the data in response to a signal indicating contact of the finger in an edge zone of the display, after the swipe.

8. A computerized method of displaying data according to claim 6, wherein the paging through the data comprises paging to a next adjacent portion of the data.

9. A computerized method of displaying data according to claim 6, wherein the paging through the data comprises paging to a next page break in the data.

10. A system, comprising:

a touch sensitive display; and

a processor coupled to the touch sensitive display and configured to cause data to be displayed on the touch sensitive display,

to receive a signal representing a finger swipe on the touch sensitive display,

to scroll through the data, responsive to the signal indicating that the swipe is of a first length, and

to page through the data, responsive to the signal indicating that the swipe is of a second length.

11. A system according to claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured to continue either to page or to scroll through the data in response to a signal indicating contact of the finger in an edge zone of the display, after the swipe.

12. A system according to claim 11, wherein the processor is configured to page through the data to a next adjacent portion of the data.

13. A system according to claim 10, wherein the processor is configured to page through the data to a next page break in the data.
