A method of manufacturing an infusion set with a plurality of components, the plurality of components including at least one transcutaneous cannula configured for delivering a therapeutic fluid to within a patient, a securement element for securing the infusion set to the patient, and an implantable sensor for monitoring an analyte wherein the sensor is associated with the securement element, the method comprising:

  • applying an active agent comprising at least one of an antimicrobial agent or an anti-scarring agent or both an antimicrobial agent and an anti-scarring agent to at least one of the plurality of components of the infusion set; and

    applying a non-active agent for controllably releasing the active agent over a predetermined time period to at least one of the plurality of components of the infusion set.
