DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING RECHARGEABLE BATTERY, AND VEHICLE
First Claim
1. A diagnostic device for a rechargeable battery mounted in a vehicle, said vehicle including a control device that calculates and stores as a first amount of power discharged an amount of electric charge discharged by said rechargeable battery while said rechargeable battery decreases in voltage from a first voltage to an intermediate voltage lower than said first voltage, if a predetermined condition is established while said vehicle is travelling, the diagnostic device comprising:
- a calculation unit that performs a calculation process, with said vehicle stopped, by obtaining said first amount of power discharged from said control device, and also by discharging said rechargeable battery and calculating as a second amount of power discharged an amount of electric charge discharged by said rechargeable battery while said rechargeable battery decreases in voltage from said intermediate voltage to a second voltage lower than said intermediate voltage, and then by calculating as an amount of power discharged for a diagnosis said first amount of power discharged plus said second amount of power discharged; and
a diagnostic unit that performs for said rechargeable battery a degradation diagnosis based on said amount of power discharged for said diagnosis.

Abstract
A diagnostic device diagnoses a lithium ion battery including a plurality of battery blocks. If a condition is established for starting a diagnosis, the diagnostic device starts discharging the battery, and after each battery block has a voltage decreased to a measurement starting voltage until the block has the voltage decreased to a measurement ending voltage the block discharges an amount of power, which the diagnostic device calculates for the battery block. If all blocks each discharge power in an amount larger than a brand-new product threshold value the diagnostic device determines that the battery is in a brand new condition. If all blocks each discharge power in an amount larger than a uselessness threshold value the diagnostic device determines that the battery is useful. If at least one block discharges power in an amount smaller than the uselessness threshold value the diagnostic device determines that the battery is useless.

12. A vehicle comprising a rechargeable battery which can be subjected to a diagnosis for a degraded state by a diagnostic device, said diagnostic device calculating an amount of power discharged for said diagnosis, by using an amount of electric charge discharged by said rechargeable battery, said diagnostic device conducting for said rechargeable battery a degradation diagnosis based on said amount of power discharged for said diagnosis, the vehicle comprising:
-
a calculation unit that calculates as a first amount of power discharged an amount of electric charge discharged by said rechargeable battery while said rechargeable battery decreases in voltage from a first voltage to an intermediate voltage lower than said first voltage, if a predetermined condition is established while the vehicle is travelling; and a storage unit that stores said first amount of power discharged therein to enable said diagnostic device to obtain said first amount of power discharged, while the vehicle is stopped, said diagnostic device obtaining from said storage unit said first amount of power discharged, said diagnostic device also discharging said rechargeable battery and calculating as a second amount of power discharged an amount of electric charge discharged by said rechargeable battery while said rechargeable battery decreases in voltage from said intermediate voltage to a second voltage lower than said intermediate voltage, said diagnostic device then calculating as said amount of power discharged for said diagnosis said first amount of power discharged plus said second amount of power discharged. - View Dependent Claims (13)
