1. An amplifier comprising:
- an input configured to receive a signal;
an overdrive shaping circuit electrically coupled to the input and configured to receive the input signal, the overdrive shaping circuit including one or more elements for hainionic shaping of the signal;
a power amplifier circuit electrically coupled to the overdrive shaping circuit, the power amplifier circuit configured to receive a harmonic shaped signal from the overdrive shaping circuit, wherein the power amplifier circuit includes a switchmode amplifier to amplify the harmonic shaped signal, and includes means to increase the output impedance of the switchmode amplifier; and
an output coupled to the power amplifier circuit, the output configured to output a signal amplified by the switchmode amplifier.

Abstract
A device and methods are provided for a guitar amplifier. In one embodiment, an amplifier includes an overdrive shaping circuit including one or more elements for harmonic shaping of a received signal. The amplifier may also include a power amplifier circuit configured to receive the harmonic shaped signal from the overdrive shaping circuit, wherein the power amplifier circuit includes a switchmode amplifier to amplify the harmonic shaped signal includes one or more elements to increase the output impedance of the switchmode amplifier. An output of the amplifier can output a signal with desired harmonic shaping and a dynamic response.

27. A method for amplifying a signal by a switchmode amplifier to produce the harmonic shape and dynamic response of a tube amplifier, the method comprising the acts of:

receiving a signal by an input of an amplifier; performing harmonic shaping on the signal by an overdrive shaping circuit of the amplifier; amplifying a harmonic shaped signal from the overdrive shaping circuit by a switchmode amplifier of the amplifier, wherein the switchmode amplifier is configured to provide increased output impedance; and outputting an amplified signal based on the harmonic shaping of an overdrive shaping circuit and signal output by the switchmode amplifier. - View Dependent Claims (28)

an input configured to receive a signal; an overdrive shaping circuit electrically coupled to the input and configured to receive the input signal, the overdrive shaping circuit including a soft clipping cell, sag controller, zero-crossing processor and even harmonic generator for harmonic shaping of the signal; a power amplifier circuit electrically coupled to the overdrive shaping circuit, the power amplifier circuit configured to receive a harmonic shaped signal from the overdrive shaping circuit, wherein the power amplifier circuit includes a switchmode amplifier to amplify the harmonic shaped signal, and includes one or more elements to increase the output impedance of the switchmode amplifier; and an output coupled to the power amplifier circuit, the output configured to output a signal amplified by the switchmode amplifier. - View Dependent Claims (30)
