Abstract

A method includes determining, at a processor, a difference between a first user interest profile of a first user and a second user interest profile of a second user. The difference is associated with a portion of a first streaming media item. The method further includes transmitting, to a device associated with a third user interest profile of a third user, a first indication associated with the first streaming media item based on the difference. The first user, the second user, and the third user are distinct users

Claims

1. A method comprising:

determining, at a processor, a difference between a first user interest profile of a first user and a second user interest profile of a second user, the difference associated with a portion of a first streaming media item; and

transmitting, to a device associated with a third user interest profile of a third user, a first indication associated with the first streaming media item based on the difference, wherein the first user, the second user, and the third user are distinct users.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the difference indicates that the portion is a contention point associated with an interest difference between the first user interest profile and the second user interest profile.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

comparing the difference to a threshold value; and

transmitting the first indication to the device when the difference is greater than the threshold value.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising identifying the third user interest profile, the third user interest profile indicating a first level of user interest associated with a second streaming media item.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the first user interest profile and the second user interest profile are associated with a group of users, and wherein the group of users is associated with an aggregate user interest profile indicating a second level of aggregate user interest associated with a third streaming media item, the aggregate user interest profile similar to the third user interest profile.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first user interest profile, the second user interest profile, the third user interest profile, or a combination thereof, include a portion-varying level of user interest.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the portion-varying level of user interest is based on a plurality of ratings associated with a plurality of portions of a corresponding streaming media item.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the first indication identifies the portion to the device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein first indication comprises a recommendation for the first streaming media item, an advertisement for the first streaming media item, or a combination thereof

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the first indication is the advertisement for the first streaming media item.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the processor is associated with an internet protocol television service provider.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the processor is associated a third-party advertiser.

13. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory comprising instructions executable by the processor to;

determine a difference between a first user interest profile of a first user and a second user interest profile of a second user, the difference associated with a portion of a first streaming media item; and

transmit, to a device associated with a third user interest profile of a third user, a first indication associated with the first streaming media item based on the difference, wherein the first user, the second user, and the third user are distinct users.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the first indication identifies a second streaming media item to the device, the second streaming media item comprising a succession of high-interest portions selected from a set of streaming media items based on group interest levels.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the first user interest profile and the second user interest profile are associated with a group of users, and wherein a particular aggregate user interest profile associated with the group of users comprises a plurality of group interest levels, each group interest level of the plurality of the group interest levels associated with a corresponding portion of a particular streaming media item.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to identify high-interest portions of a set of streaming media items by selecting one or more particular portions of the set of streaming media items based on a corresponding aggregate user interest profile for each streaming media item of the set of streaming media items, and wherein the first indication identifies a succession of the high-interest portions to the device.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to transmit, to the device, an indication of a succession of the high-interest portions based on determining that a group interest level of an aggregate user interest profile corresponding to each particular portion of the one or more particular portions is greater than a threshold value.

18. A computer-readable storage device storing instructions, the instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to perform operations including:

determining a difference between a first user interest profile of a first user and a second user interest profile of a second user, the difference associated with a portion of a first streaming media item; and

transmitting, to a device associated with a third user interest profile of a third user, a first indication associated with the first streaming media item based on the difference, wherein the first user, the second user, and the third user are distinct users.

19. The computer-readable device of claim 18, wherein the operations further include determining whether the first streaming media item is positively rated by a group of users based on an aggregate user interest profile of the first streaming media item, and wherein the first user interest profile and the second user interest profile are associated with the group of user.

20. The computer-readable device of claim 18, wherein determining the difference comprises:

subtracting a first user interest value of the first user interest profile associated with the portion from a second user interest value of the second user interest profile associated with the portion to generate a result; and

determining whether the result is greater than a threshold value.
