Abstract

The disclosure relates to mitigating the effect of a sudden change in sensor calibration parameters. An embodiment of the disclosure retrieves a current calibration parameter value for the sensor, determines a new calibration parameter value for the sensor, and generates transitional calibration parameter values based at least on the current calibration parameter value and the new calibration parameter value using an interpolation function configured to prevent a sudden change in the sensor calibration parameter values.

Claims

1. A method for calibrating a sensor comprising:

retrieving a current calibration parameter value for the sensor;

determining a new calibration parameter value for the sensor; and

generating transitional calibration parameter values based on at least the current calibration parameter value and the new calibration parameter value using interpolation logic configured to prevent a sudden change in the current calibration parameter value.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the interpolation logic includes a linear interpolation function.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the interpolation logic includes a non-linear interpolation function.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein each calibration parameter value is one of a bias value, scale factor value, axis non-orthogonality value, axis misalignment value, or cross-sensor misalignment value of a calibration parameter of the sensor.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

establishing the new calibration parameter value as the current calibration parameter value after a predetermined time.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

establishing the new calibration parameter value as the current calibration parameter value after completion of the interpolation logic.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transitioning from the current calibration parameter value to the new calibration parameter value by outputting the transitional calibration parameter values.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the transitioning is performed in real-time.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

changing an amount of time allotted for the transitioning; and

performing the transitioning using the changed amount of time, to improve performance of the sensor calibration.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

timestamping the new calibration parameter value; and

performing the transitioning in a post-processing mode.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

retrieving a previous set of current and new calibration parameter values for the sensor; and

wherein the generating comprises;

generating transitional calibration parameter values based on the previous set of current and new calibration parameter values, the current calibration parameter value, and the new calibration parameter value using multi-point interpolation logic configured to prevent the sudden change in the current calibration parameter value.

12. An apparatus for calibrating a sensor comprising:

means for retrieving a current calibration parameter value for the sensor;

means for determining a new calibration parameter value for the sensor; and

means for generating transitional calibration parameter values based on at least the current calibration parameter value and the new calibration parameter value using an interpolation function configured to prevent a sudden change in the current calibration parameter value.

13. A mobile device comprising:

logic configured to retrieve a current calibration parameter value for a sensor on the mobile device;

logic configured to determine a new calibration parameter value for the sensor; and

logic configured to generate transitional calibration parameter values based on at least the current calibration parameter value and the new calibration parameter value using interpolation logic configured to prevent a sudden change in the current calibration parameter value.

14. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein the interpolation logic includes a linear interpolation function.

15. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein the interpolation logic includes a non-linear interpolation function.

16. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein each calibration parameter value is one of a bias value, scale factor value, axis non-orthogonality value, axis misalignment value, or cross-sensor misalignment value of a calibration parameter of the sensor.

17. The mobile device of claim 13, further comprising:

logic configured to establish the new calibration parameter value as the current calibration parameter value after a predetermined time.

18. The mobile device of claim 13, further comprising:

logic configured to establish the new calibration parameter value as the current calibration parameter value after completion of the interpolation logic.

19. The mobile device of claim 13, further comprising:

logic configured to transition from the current calibration parameter value to the new calibration parameter value by outputting the transitional calibration parameter values.

20. The mobile device of claim 19, wherein the transitioning is performed in real-time.

21. The mobile device of claim 19, further comprising:

logic configured to change an amount of time allotted for the transitioning; and

logic configured to perform the transitioning using the changed amount of time, to improve performance of the sensor calibration.

22. The mobile device of claim 13, further comprising:

logic configured to timestamp the new calibration parameter value; and

logic configured to perform the transitioning in a post-processing mode.

23. The mobile device of claim 13, further comprising:

logic configured to retrieve a previous set of current and new calibration parameter values for the sensor; and

wherein the logic configured to generate comprises;

logic configured to generate transitional calibration parameter values based on the previous set of current and new calibration parameter values, the current calibration parameter value, and the new calibration parameter value using multi-point interpolation logic configured to prevent the sudden change in the current calibration parameter value.

24. A non-transitory computer-readable medium for calibrating a sensor, comprising:

at least one instruction for retrieving a current calibration parameter value for the sensor;

at least one instruction for determining a new calibration parameter value for the sensor; and

at least one instruction for generating transitional calibration parameter values based on at least the current calibration parameter value and the new calibration parameter value using interpolation logic configured to prevent a sudden change in the current calibration parameter value.
