Abstract

There is disclosed a method of providing detailed information using a multimedia based traffic and travel information message and a terminal for executing the same. A method of providing detailed information using a multimedia based traffic in accordance with this document may comprise receiving transport protocol expert group (TPEG) information, comprising a road traffic message and a multimedia based traffic and travel information message and comprised of a hierarchical structure, displaying one or more events comprised in the road traffic message, allowing a request for detailed information about any one of the events to be input, and receiving detailed information of a multimedia type from a multimedia data providing server through specific one of bearer information comprised in the multimedia based traffic and travel information message and providing the received detailed information.

2. A portable terminal, comprising:

a touch screen;

a wireless communication module;

a GPS receiver;

a memory; and

a controller operatively coupled with the touch screen, the wireless communication module, the GPS receiver and the memory, the controller configured to;

receive a request to download multimedia data via a touch input applied to the touch screen,

identify a size of the multimedia data in response to the request to download the multimedia data, and

control the wireless communication module to download the multimedia data or control the touch screen to display visual information related to the identified size of the multimedia data,

wherein whether the controller controls the wireless communication module to download the multimedia data or controls the touch screen to display the visual information is determined based on the size of the multimedia data.

3. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the multimedia data is downloaded if the size of the multimedia data is smaller than a preset reference value and the visual information is displayed if the size of the multimedia data is larger than the preset reference value.

4. The portable terminal of claim 3, wherein, dependent on a communication mode of the wireless communication module, the controller is configured to control one of the wireless communication module and the touch screen according to the size of the multimedia data.

5. The portable terminal of claim 4,

wherein, if the wireless communication module is set in a first communication mode, the controller is configured to control one of the wireless communication module and the touch screen according to the size of the multimedia data, and

wherein, if the wireless communication module is set in a second communication mode different from the first communication mode, the controller is configured to control the wireless communication module to download the multimedia data regardless of the size of the multimedia data.

6. The portable terminal of claim 2,

wherein the touch screen is configured to display a list including items corresponding to each of different communication modes, and

wherein, when one of the items is selected through the list, the controller is configured to control the wireless communication module to set a communication mode corresponding to the selected item.

7. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein whether or not the visual information is displayed is determined depending on a communication mode that is set for the wireless communication module.

8. The portable terminal of claim 2,

wherein the request is received when a graphical image displayed on the touch screen is touched, and

wherein the graphical image corresponds to an icon related to downloading the multimedia data.

9. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the visual information is displayed on the touch screen without downloading the multimedia data.

10. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the visual information indicates the size of the multimedia data.

11. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the visual information is displayed in a text form.

12. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the multimedia data corresponds to at least one of an audio type data, a video type data, and an image type data.

13. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the wireless communication module is set in a communication mode corresponding to one of a wireless Internet network, a global system for mobile (GSM) network, and a code division multiple access (CDMA) network.

14. A portable terminal, comprising:

a touch screen;

a wireless communication module;

a GPS receiver;

a memory; and

a controller operatively coupled with the touch screen, the wireless communication module, the GPS receiver and the memory, the controller configured to;

receive a request to download multimedia data via a touch input applied to the touch screen,

identify a size of the multimedia data in response to the request,

control the wireless communication module to download the multimedia data if the size of the multimedia data is smaller than a preset reference value, and

display information related to the size of the multimedia data without downloading the multimedia data if the size of the multimedia data is larger than the preset reference value.

15. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein, dependent on a communication mode of the wireless communication module, the controller is configured to control one of the wireless communication module and the touch screen according to the size of the multimedia data.

16. The portable terminal of claim 15,

wherein, if the wireless communication module is set in a first communication mode, the controller is configured to control one of the wireless communication module and the touch screen according to the size of the multimedia data, and

wherein, if the wireless communication module is set in a second communication mode different from the first communication mode, the controller is configured to control the wireless communication module to download the multimedia data regardless of the size of the multimedia data.

17. The portable terminal of claim 14,

wherein the touch screen is configured to display a list including items corresponding to each of different communication modes, and

wherein, when one of the items is selected through the list, the controller is configured to control the wireless communication module to set a communication mode corresponding to the selected item.

18. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein whether or not the visual information is displayed is determined depending on a communication mode that is set for the wireless communication module.

19. The portable terminal of claim 14,

wherein the request is received when a graphical image displayed on the touch screen is touched, and

wherein the graphical image corresponds to an icon related to downloading the multimedia data.

20. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein the visual information is displayed on the touch screen without downloading the multimedia data.

21. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein the visual information indicates the size of the multimedia data.

22. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein the visual information is displayed in a text form.

23. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein the multimedia data corresponds to at least one of an audio type data, a video type data, and an image type data.

24. The portable terminal of claim 14, wherein the wireless communication module is set in a communication mode corresponding to one of a wireless Internet network, a global system for mobile (GSM) network, and a code division multiple access (CDMA) network.
