Abstract

A wind screen adapted for use with a motorcycle fairing. The windscreen may be adapted to be removed from the fairing. The windscreen may have a physical configuration adapted to reduce wind on a rider sitting in a more upright position, and to minimize flutter of the windscreen. The windscreen may be adapted to mount in a plurality of configurations.

Claims

1. A motorcycle and fairing system for a motorcycle, said motorcycle and fairing system comprising:

a fairing, said fairing adapted to mount to the front of a motorcycle; and

a wind screen, said wind screen adapted to mount to said fairing at a mounting interface, said wind screen comprising a left side and a right side;

wherein said left side and said right said of said wind screen overlay the front and sides of said fairing, and wherein a first airflow passage is created between the fairing and the wind screen in the area where said left side of said wind screen overlays said fairing, and wherein a second airflow passage is created between the fairing and the wind screen in the area where said right side of said wind screen overlays said fairing.

2. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 1 wherein wind screen is mounted along a central portion of its bottom portion to the center of a top portion of said fairing.

3. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 2 wherein said motorcycle and fairing system further comprises bumper pads, said bumper pads reside between said fairing and the overlayed portions of said wind screen.

4. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 2 wherein the airflow passage begins at a first point at the front of the fairing and ends at a second point behind said wind screen and above the fairing.

5. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 1 wherein said wind screen comprises a bend above its mounting interface, wherein said bend is a forward bend.

6. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 4 wherein said wind screen comprises a bend above its mounting interface, wherein said bend is a forward bend.

7. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 1 wherein the sides and the top of the wind screen are curved, and wherein the sides of the wind screen are curved with a first radius and the top of the wind screen is curved with a second radius, and wherein said first radius is smaller than said second radius.

The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 4 wherein the sides and the top of the wind screen are curved, and wherein the sides of the wind screen are curved with a first radius and the top of the wind screen is curved with a second radius, and wherein said first radius is smaller than said second radius.

9. The motorcycle and fairing system of claim 6 wherein the sides and the top of the wind screen are curved, and wherein the sides of the wind screen are curved with a first radius and the top of the wind screen is curved with a second radius, and wherein said first radius is smaller than said second radius.

10. A wind screen for a motorcycle fairing, said wind screen comprising:

a central mounting area;

a first bulb out along a first side, said first bulb out having a first radius;

a second bulb out along a second side, said second bulb out having said first radius; and

a raised top area, said raised top area having a second radius, wherein said second radius is larger than said first radius.

11. The wind screen of claim 10 wherein said wind screen further comprises:

a first raised area below said first bulb out; and

a second raised area below said second bulb out,

wherein said first raised area and said second raised area are adapted to allow air flow under said first side and said second side of said wind screen, respectively.

12. The wind screen of claim 10 wherein said wind screen further comprises a bend above its central mounting area, wherein said bend is a forward bend.

13. The wind screen of claim 11 wherein said wind screen further comprises a bend above its central mounting area, wherein said bend is a forward bend.

14. The wind screen of claim 10 further comprising a plurality of mounting holes in said central mounting area.

15. The wind screen of claim 12 further comprising a plurality of mounting holes in said central mounting area.
