METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRIGGERING MACHINE TYPE COMMUNICATIONS APPLICATIONS
First Claim
1. A method for triggering at least one machine type communications (MTC) application using at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
- receiving a triggering message including a device trigger (DT) and a maximum delayed response time value from a core network entity (CN);
storing the DT in the WTRU;
initiating a timer in the WTRU set to the maximum delayed response time value; and
on a condition that the timer expires, the WTRU transitioning to a radio resource control (RRC) connected mode and dispatching the DT to the MTC application.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for triggering at least one machine type communications (MTC) application using at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is disclosed. The method includes receiving a triggering message including a device trigger (DT) and a maximum delayed response time value from a core network entity (CN), storing the DT in the WTRU, initiating a timer in the WTRU set to the maximum delayed response time value, and on a condition that the timer expires, the WTRU transitioning to a radio resource control (RRC) connected mode and dispatching the DT to the MTC application.

7. A method for triggering at least one machine type communications (MTC) application using at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
-
receiving a triggering message including a device trigger (DT) and a maximum delay value from a core network (CN) entity; the WTRU dispatching the DT to the MTC application; receiving, at the WTRU, a trigger response message from the MTC application; storing the trigger response message in the WTRU; initiating a timer in the WTRU set to the maximum delay value; and on a condition that the timer expires, the WTRU transitioning to a radio resource control (RRC) connected mode and forwarding the trigger response message to an MTC server. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11)

12. The method as in clam 7, wherein the triggering message is received in a non-access stratum (NAS) message.

13. A method for triggering at least one machine type communications (MTC) application using a control) in a core network (CN) entity, the method comprising:
-
receiving an MTC device trigger request from an MTC-interworking function (IWF); transmitting an acknowledgment that the MTC device trigger request is being processed; determining if the MTC device trigger request includes a preference of point-to-point delivery; and transmitting the MTC device triggering request to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) using point-to-point delivery. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18)

19. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for triggering at least one machine type communications (MTC) application, the WTRU comprising:
-
a receiver configured to receive a triggering message including a device trigger (DT) and a maximum delayed response time value from a core network entity (CN); a processor configured to store the DT; the processor further configured to initiate a timer set to the maximum delayed response time value; and on a condition that the timer expires, the processor is further configured to transition to a radio resource control (RRC) connected mode and a transmitter configured to dispatch the DT to the MTC application.
