detecting a user input at a home safety device; determining whether the user input is a panic input; if the user input is determined to be a panic input, then selecting a first frequency with which to communicate with a services controller and sending a panic message corresponding to the panic input to the services controller at the first frequency; if no response is received from the services controller responsive to the panic message sent at the first frequency, then selecting a second frequency to communicate with the service controller; and if the user input is determined not to be a panic input, then selecting the second frequency with which to communicate with the services controller.
