Abstract

Described is a technology by which personalization data is used to select and order video highlight clips for a personalized highlight reel that a user may play to view, such as part of a narrative arranged for that user. The narrative may include introductory content, transition content and/or ending content. The narrative may include advertising content and/or ending content. The narrative may be rearranged in response to an event.

Claims

1. In a computing environment, a method performed at least in part on at least one processor comprising, accessing personalization data, determining video clips based upon the personalization data and metadata associated with the video clips, and ordering the video clips into a catalog based upon the personalization data and at least some of the metadata.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising, arranging the video clips ordered according to the catalog and other content into a narrative presentation.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein arranging the video clips and other content into the narrative presentation comprises including transition content that upon playing of the narrative is played before at least one video clip.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein arranging the video clips and other content into the narrative presentation comprises including an advertisement that upon playing of the narrative is played in association with at least one video clip.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein determining the video clips based upon the personalization data and the metadata comprises querying for video clips associated with metadata that matches information corresponding to at least some of the personalization data.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein determining the video clips based upon the personalization data and the metadata comprises filtering a set of available video clips into a smaller subset.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein ordering the video clips into a catalog comprises determining scores for at least some of the video clips and ordering the video clips based upon the scores.

The method of claim 1 further comprising, arranging the video clips ordered according to the catalog and other content into a narrative presentation, detecting interaction directed towards playing the narrative presentation, and playing at least part of the narrative presentation in response to detecting the interaction.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising, dynamically reconfiguring the catalog in response to an event.

10. A system comprising, a content scoring component configured to determine scores for a set of personalized video clips selected based upon at least some personalization data, a sorting component that orders the video clips, and a mechanism that arranges the video clips and other content into a narrative for playing.

11. The system of claim 10 further comprising a filter set configured to determine the set of personalized video clips from a larger set of available video clips.

12. The system of claim 10 further comprising a remote personalization service configured to allow access to the personalization data from a plurality of remote devices.

13. The system of claim 10 wherein the content scoring component is further configured to determine the scores based upon one or more criteria including at least one of popularity data, user behavior history data or state data.

14. The system of claim 10 wherein the personalization data comprises data related to sports, and wherein at least some of the personalized video clips comprise sports highlight clips.

15. The system of claim 10 wherein the other content comprises transition content.

16. The system of claim 10 wherein the other content comprises advertising content.

17. One or more computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions, which when executed perform steps, comprising:

ordering information corresponding to a set of video clips into a catalog based upon personalization data;

arranging the catalog into a narrative based upon the ordering, including adding at least some other content to the narrative; and

playing at least part of the narrative, including playing at least one of the video clips.

18. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 17 wherein ordering the catalog comprises determining a score for each video clip, and sorting based upon the scores for the set of video clips.

19. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 17 wherein arranging the catalog into a narrative comprises adding introductory content before a first video clip in the narrative, or adding transition content between at least two video clips in the narrative, or both adding introductory content before a first video clip in the narrative, or adding transition content between at least two video clips in the narrative.

20. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 17 having further computer-executable instructions comprising, dynamically rearranging the narrative based upon an event.
