Abstract

Songs titles and song artists or other content received on an HD-radio are cross-referenced to one or more geographic locations where they were heard on the radio by identifying a song title or artist in the HD radio data stream and instructing a global positioning system navigation unit to contemporaneously determine its location. The determined location and song title and/or artist are cross-referenced to each other in a list or database. A touch-sensitive display device is configured to display the location or portion of a route where a listened-to song was heard. Song titles and/or artists can be determined by tactile selection of portions of a route displayed on the map.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a first signal containing information in a data stream;

a received data stream analyzer coupled to the receiver and configured to detect information in said data stream;

a global position system (GPS) coupled to the received data stream analyzer, the GPS configured to determine a geographic location of the receiver responsive to receipt by the GPS of a signal from the received data stream analyzer; and

an information correlator coupled to the received data stream analyzer and the GPS, and configured to correlate information in the data stream to a geographic location.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

a data storage medium coupled to at least one of the receiver and the received data stream analyzer, the data storage medium configured to store data representing information in the data stream.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the data storage medium comprises a received song title list database.

4. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

a data storage medium coupled to the GPS, the data storage medium configured to store data representing a geographic location of the receiver determined by the GPS responsive to the GPS receipt of a signal from the received data stream analyzer.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the information is comprised of a song title, and wherein information correlator is configured correlate a prior geographic location of the receiver to a song title in a received song title database.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the information correlator is configured to select a prior geographic location of the receiver from a database of geographic locations whereat song titles were received by the receiver.

The system of claim 1, further comprising a display device coupled to the information correlator, wherein the information correlator is configured to display a map on the display device and to display on the displayed map, at least one geographic location where a song was received by the receiver.

The system of claim 1, further comprising a display device coupled to the correlator, wherein the information correlator is configured to display a map on the display device and to display on the displayed map, a plurality of legs of a route, over which the receiver travelled and during which a plurality of songs were received by the receiver.

The system of claim 1, further comprising a display device having a touch-sensitive screen, the display device being coupled to the information correlator, which is configured to display a map on the display device and to display on the displayed map, a plurality of legs of a route, over which the receiver travelled and during which a plurality of songs were received by the receiver, the touch-sensitive screen being configured to be responsive to a tactile input above a leg of the route displayed on the display device and, output a route leg selection signal to the information correlator, the information correlator thereafter effectuating the display of a title of a song received by the receiver while the receiver was located along the leg selected by the tactile input.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the receiver is a hybrid digital radio receiver.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein each song in the list of song titles is correlated to at least one geographic location, and wherein the method of claim 10 further comprises:

locating a song in the list of song titles using a geographic location against which the title of the song was correlated.

11. A method of correlating information in a data stream received by a receiver, to one or more geographic locations where the information in the data stream was received, the method comprising:

a. receiving a first signal with information;

b. upon receipt of the information, sending a second signal to a navigation system, the second signal causing the navigation system to;

1) determine a first geographic location of the receiver when the second signal is first received by the navigation system;

2) store the first geographic location in a computer-readable storage medium;

3) determine a second geographic location of the receiver prior to receipt of another, second signal;

4) store the second geographic location in the computer-readable storage medium; and

c. storing at least part of the information in the data stream in the computer-readable storage medium indexed against at least one of the first and second geographic locations stored by the navigation system.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein receiving a first signal comprises:

receiving a serial data stream carried on a first portion of a radio frequency signal while simultaneously receiving on a second portion of the same radio frequency signal, information from which a baseband representation of the song can be reproduced; and

detecting in the serial data stream, at least one of;

a song title;

an artist;

a radio station; and

the start and the end of a song, received in the second portion of the radio frequency signal.

13. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

correlating the title of a song stored in the computer storage medium to at least one of;

the first geographic location;

the second geographic location; and

a geographic location between the first and second geographic locations.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein storing the title of the song is further comprised of storing the title of the song as an entry to a list of song titles.

16. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

displaying a map on a display device, the map displayed on the display device including an identification of at least one of the first and second geographic locations.

The method of claim 11, further comprising displaying a map on a touch-sensitive display device configured to both display images and receive a tactile input and to generate an output signal identifying where the tactile input occurred on the touch-sensitive display screen, the displayed map including indicators of portions of a route over which the radio frequency receiver previously travelled, each indicated portion being a portion of the route during which a particular song was received by the radio frequency receiver and during which a title of the received song was recovered from a first signal received by the radio.

18. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

displaying a map on a touch-sensitive display device configured to both display images and receive a tactile input and to generate an output signal identifying where the tactile input occurred on the touch-sensitive display screen, the displayed map including indicators of different legs of route over which the receiver travelled;

receiving a tactile input that selects a displayed indicator of a leg of a route;

displaying a list of song titles received by the receiver while the receiver was along the route identified by the displayed indicator.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the list of song titles are ordered according to a distance along the portion of the route identified by the displayed indicator.

20. The method of claim 11, wherein the information in a data stream comprises:

a song title, an indicator of a commercial message.

21. The method of claim 11, wherein the step of receiving is comprised of at least one of:

receiving a radio frequency signal; and

receiving an Internet data stream;
