Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for calculating point values for users who participate in activities. An activity is first captured with a sensor. A processor classifies the activity by comparing a sensor signal to templates. Once the activity is classified, an activity factor is selected. Point values are then calculated as a function of the activity factor and duration of the activity. If a predetermined criteria is met, such as

Claims

1. A method comprising:

(a) capturing activity of a user with at least one sensor;

(b) classifying the captured activity;

(c) determining an activity factor corresponding to the classified activity;

(d) at a processor calculating a point value by multiplying the activity factor by a duration of the activity;

(e) determining if an adjustment criteria has been met; and

(f) when the adjustment criteria has been met, adjusting the point value.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein (a) comprises capturing the activity of the user with a wrist-worn device that includes the at least one sensor.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the sensor comprises an accelerometer.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the accelerometer comprises a multi-axis accelerometer.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein (b) comprises comparing at least one signal from the at least one sensor to activity templates.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the adjustment criteria comprises the activity factor not exceeding a threshold.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the threshold is associated with a game.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the adjustment criteria comprises inactivity for a predetermined period of time.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the adjustment criteria comprises inactivity for a predetermined period of time, rest, recovery and sleep periods.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the adjustment criteria comprises accumulated inactivity over a predetermined period of time.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the adjustment criteria comprises a first quantity of inactivity during the morning or a different second quantity of inactivity during a night period.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising notifying a user of the adjustment.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising notifying a competing user of the adjustment.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising suggesting an activity to the user.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the recommendation is based on a user'"'"'s profile data.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the recommendation is based on a workout previously performed by the user.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the recommendation is based on a current location of the user.

18. An activity tracking device comprising:

at least one sensor;

a processor;

a tangible memory containing computer-executable instructions that when executed by the processor cause the device to perform the steps comprising;

(a) capturing activity of a user with at least one sensor;

(b) classifying the captured activity;

(c) determining an activity factor corresponding to the classified activity;

(d) at a processor calculating a point value by multiplying the activity factor by a duration of the activity;

(e) determining if an adjustment criteria has been met; and

(f) when the adjustment criteria has been met, adjusting the point value.

19. The activity tracking device of claim 18, wherein the at least one sensor is configured to be worn a wrist of a user.

20. The activity tracking device of claim 18, wherein the sensor comprises an accelerometer.
