Abstract

Navigating on a display includes tracking motion of an input tool on a display, comparing a motion of the input tool to a threshold, and changing a position of the visible portion of a page of information on the display if the input tool motion exceeds the threshold. The position of the visible portion of the page of information on the display is constrained if the motion does not exceed the threshold.

13. A method comprising:

receiving data representative of content to be displayed within a display window associated with a computing device;

analyzing, using at least one processor, a layout of the content to be displayed within the display window;

formatting, using the at least one processor, the content into a plurality of portions for display within the display window; and

displaying, within the display window, a first portion of the plurality of portions.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of portions each has a width that is viewable within the display window.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises comparing at least a portion of the content to one or more dimensions of the display window.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises:

separating the content into a plurality of components; and

analyzing each of the plurality of components.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises analyzing code associated with the content to recognize formatting codes.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein analyzing the code associated with the content to recognize formatting codes comprises analyzing the code to identify identifiable tags associated with one or more components of the content.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the identifiable tags comprise at least one of a header tag, a body tag, or a table tag.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein formatting the content comprises recoding the content.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein recoding the content comprises recoding the content from HTML to a language other than HTML.

22. The method of claim 13, wherein the computing device comprises an internet-enabled mobile telephone.

23. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including a set of instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform steps comprising:

receiving data representative of content to be displayed within a display window associated with a computing device;

analyzing, using at least one processor, a layout of the content to be displayed within the display window;

formatting, using the at least one processor, the content into a plurality of portions for display within the display window; and

displaying, within the display window, a first portion of the plurality of portions.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the plurality of portions each has a width that is viewable within the display window.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 24, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises comparing at least a portion of the content to one or more dimensions of the display window.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 25, wherein analyzing the layout of the content further comprises:

separating the content into a plurality of components; and

analyzing each of the plurality of components.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises analyzing code associated with the content to recognize formatting codes.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 27, wherein analyzing the code associated with the content to recognize formatting codes comprises analyzing the code to identify identifiable tags associated with one or more components of the content.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein recoding the content comprises recoding the content from HTML to a language other than HTML.

30. A device comprising:

a touch screen display;

at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium; and

at least one processor programmed to;

receive data representative of content to be displayed within a display window on the touch screen display;

analyze a layout of the content to be displayed within the display window;

format the content into a plurality of portions for display within the display window; and

display, within the display window, a first portion of the plurality of portions.

31. The device of claim 30, wherein the plurality of portions each has a width that is viewable within the display window.

32. The device of claim 30, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises comparing at least a portion of the content to one or more dimensions of the display window.

33. The device of claim 30, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises:

separating the content into a plurality of components; and

analyzing each of the plurality of components.

34. The device of claim 30, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises analyzing code associated with the content to recognize formatting codes.

35. The device of claim 34, wherein analyzing the code associated with the content to recognize formatting codes comprises analyzing the code to identify identifiable tags associated with one or more components of the content.

36. The device of claim 35, wherein the identifiable tags comprise at least one of a header tag, a body tag, or a table tag.

37. The device of claim 30, wherein the device comprises an internet-enabled mobile telephone.

38. A method comprising:

receiving, at a server, a request to access a web page;

receiving, at the server, a notification of a display window size associated with a client device;

analyzing, using at least one processor, a layout of the requested web page;

formatting the web page into a plurality of portions in accordance with the received notification and the analysis of the layout of the requested web page; and

sending the formatted web page to the client device for display within the display window.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the plurality of portions each has a width that is viewable within the display window.

40. The method of claim 38, wherein analyzing the layout of the web page comprises:

separating the web page into a plurality of components; and

comparing each of the plurality of components to one or more dimensions of the display window.

41. The method of claim 38, wherein analyzing the layout of the content comprises analyzing code associated with the web page to recognize identifiable tags associated with one or more components of the content, wherein the identifiable tags comprise at least one of a header tag, a body tag, or a table tag.

42. The method of claim 38, wherein formatting the content comprises recoding the content from HTML to a language other than HTML.
